Can't say I have seen a sinkhole open up that big before, and then swallow up homes and people. Terrifying...

They're both real. It doesn't make any logical sense that one of them would be fake. Why do you think the top one looks photoshoped? Is it because the hole is almost all solid black where as the other you can see more detail in the shadow area? It all has to do with exposure.

That and it looks like the angle of the sun was a bit low, and it was probably also partly/mostly cloudy, due the lack of strong, dark shadows on the buildings and vehicles. The light seems more diffused. So with all that said, you won't have a strong source of sun light shinning into the hole to illuminate it better.

Good photos though and kind of scary. I wonder if it would be possible to develop a satellite to scan below the surface of the Earth to look for future sink holes. Probably use some sort of ground penetrating radar or something like that.

I doubt that, it would be a waste of time and pointless when there's lots of photos on the web that look similiar.

This sinkhole was caused by a burst sewer pipe -- it's not a natural one.
