The only time I got out of bed to see something was when I heard a car in front of my house. It was a black VAN. (Government) I lived on a cul-de-sac, and the van stayed there about 15 minutes....2:00AM -2:15 AM.

I'd look out the window to see what exactly was coming out of the ship.
If it was a grey then I'd probably get myself armed somehow.
Anything else I'd go open the door, buckle up my courage and greet them.
