ISTANBUL -- An earthquake measuring 5.9 on the open-ended Richter scale shook the eastern Turkish province of Elazig on Wednesday, a spokesman for the Kandilli Observatory told the NTV news channel.
It was not immediately known whether the quake, which was also felt in the neighboring provinces of Tunceli, Gaziantep, Malatya and Diyarbakir, caused casualties or damage.
