Im not sure if this has been addressed yet, so Ill mention it anyways.. Im looking to possibly build a fallout/survival shelter in my yard, or another area. Basically what Im wondering, is what sort of foundation would I need? Concrete, lead, steel, rubber, and so on, to make sure the place radiation, water proof, and all that jazz. Also, Im wondering if there is any type of material I can insulate it with that would block an EMP blast. I am also curious how deep I would need to make it, from the ceiling height to the surface. Any input or suggestions would be excellent.

The question is how much do you want to spend?

A section of steel culvert 10' - 12' wide 20' - 40' in length might set you back a couple of grand. Solar panels & batteries can provide power. A deep well or sufficient water storage is also a major concern. The steel will provide a good defense against radioactivity especially when it is buried and most manufacturers can fabricate them to whatever specs you desire.
