Originally From Sky Sports
Newcastle United have sacked manager Graeme Souness.

The news comes just 24 hours after United slumped to a 3-0 defeat at Manchester City - their fifth defeat in the last six Premiership games.

Souness took charge at St James' Park in September 2004, but never really won over the Magpies faithful.

His record of just 36 wins from 83 games was never going to be good enough for a team looking to reclaim a place in the UEFA Champions League - but instead they now find themselves embroiled in a relegation battle.

Former West Ham boss Glenn Roeder, already at the club as boss of their academy, has been appointed caretaker manager and he will be assisted by captain Alan Shearer for Saturday's clash with Portsmouth.

It comes as no surprise, but Glen Roeder? I'll leave you to figure it out about him.

If nothing else, at least you will actually make some progress now

Still... to late in the season to fix things

Progress? With Roeder at the helm.. Ok he has a little experience but he proved he couldn't cut the mustard at West Ham. Look for them to continue to sink, they need a good manager at the helm and need to get rid of half the team for starters before you even think of them climbing up the table. But its too late for that, the Prem is in its crucial stage, clubs wont let their managers just up and leave. Plus the transfer window is closed and they are stuck with what they have.

i know what you mean, with him nto being able to cut it at West Ham. They most likely had to get somebody who was available in as soon as for the next game

By progress, getting rid of Souness was a big big step forward, at least with Roeder, they are just puting up with that for 4 months

And the other thing, all the players think Souness is a d!ck, is Roeder like that?

Roeder is actually an alright bloke and he did play for Newcastle in his playing days. One thing about him is that he isnt made of the sterner stuff so a few players may be able to walk all over him.

Roeder guided West Ham to their highest EVER Premiership finish of 7th and only started to slip when he underwent serious brain surgery!!!

Roeder and Shearer have both put themselves out of the running for the full-time position so a new manager isnt far away.

Also...if you take a look back over the last few seasons, care-taker managers very often turn around the fortunes of a team so well they astonish critics...Look at Pearce/Man City!!!

Newcastle will be fine...have a new manager installed at the end of the season, recover from their horrendous injury list and prove every last critic wrong next season!!!
