Newcastle striker Patrick Kluivert has been left under no illusion he is playing for his future on Tyneside.
Kluivert arrived at St James' Park from Barcelona during the summer as chairman Freddy Shepherd finally got his hands on the man he hopes can one day
fill Alan Shearer's boots.
The Magpies announced at the time the 28-year-old Dutchman had been lured to the Barclays Premiership on a three-year contract.
However, it has since emerged two of those years are dependent on both the club and the player agreeing options included in the deal at the end of the
current season and that, in effect, he could leave after only 12 months.
Newcastle have declined to elaborate on the arrangement which could see them lose both Kluivert and the retirement-bound Shearer in the summer.
