Jamie Redknapp has joined his father Harry at Southampton after Tottenham Hotspur allowed their club captain to leave on a free transfer.

The former England international has been a peripheral figure in Martin Jol's plans since the Dutchman took over the reins at White Hart Lane from Jacques Santini.

Though Jol recently called on the midfielder to stay in North London, he has not blocked Redknapp's exit to St Mary's.

Redknapp would have been out of contract at Spurs at the end of the season but he has now returned to the South Coast, the region where he started his career with Bournemouth.

He becomes his father's second signing of the transfer window, following Monday's acquisition of Spurs team-mate Calum Davenport on loan.

The former Liverpool ace has inked a six-month contract with Saints after successfully passing a medical on Monday evening.

Davenport is a great defender, we had him on loan at West Ham. He is a future international for sure. I wonder why we never got him back?

Yeah the word is that Tottenham wanted him to have Premiership experience thats why they loaned him to Southampton. So when the loan is over he is available to go straight in the side....
