Nottingham Forest manager Joe Kinnear has had a bid to sign out of favour Crystal Palace defender Darren Powell on loan rejected.

The 28-year-old's only appearance for Palace this season was in the Carling Cup victory over Hartlepool United and it appears that he does not feature in Iain Dowie's plans.

However, Dowie was not prepared to let him leave on a temporary basis and told Kinnear it was a permanent deal or nothing.

"I did speak to Palace about him a couple of weeks ago. I was looking for someone to come in on loan," Kinnear told the Nottingham Evening Post.

"I knew we had Michael Dawson coming back but Palace were only interested in selling Powell.

"I didn't want to buy him and so I didn't put in an offer."

Powell has made 49 league appearances for Palace since his 400,000 move from Brentford in August 2002, but a combination of injuries and new signings have seen him slip out of the first-team reckoning since Dowie took charge at Selhurst Park.
