Disenchanted with last Saturday's performance almost to the point of dejection, WBO heavyweight champion Lamon Brewster (pic by Tom Hogan) is hoping against hope that the cheekbone he damaged in a lacklustre first defence against unhealded Kali Meehan in Las Vegas heals up fast.

"I want to get back in the ring as soon as possible to erase Saturday's fight from everyone's minds," Brewster said of the split decision win over the Australian.

Speaking from a LA hospital while awaiting the results of a preliminary x-ray on his damaged left cheekbone, Brewster told SecondsOut: "I watched the fight last night and I won it. He threw more punches but I landed heavier shots. I let him take rounds and let it be closer than it actually was but the main thing is a lot of people had expectations that I would do this or that and when I didn't they got down on my performance. I understand that."
