I thought the point of the thread was the fastest, not the "best."

I think the title goes to the SR-71; the F-22 isn't even close.

As far as the worlds fastest aircraft goes i know for a fact that the U.S. government has a craft that can go around the globe in thirty minutes. Im not a pilot nor anything closely related but while i was in the marine corps i saw this craft attached to the bottom of a bomber. I was told the reason for that was that when it took of from a dead stop it pulled so many G's it would kill the pilot due to asfixiation.

FL600 would be 600,000 feet FL60 would be 60,000

there's a saying with airline pilots. "don't trust anyone over 30" they don't mean age they mean 30,000 feet

I know this post is over three years old, but I can't let this one go.

Flight levels are set in 100ft increments, not 1000ft - Flight Level 1 is 100ft, Flight Level 600 is 60,000ft.

And as airliners regularly cruise at altitudes between 33,000ft and 39,000ft your saying is utterly pointless.

The space shuttle is a lifting body and just drops down from space. It is not a powered flight.
