I dont know about that one...albeit, it's good to be vigilant, I doubt highly that this weekend will procure any kind of tests from the DPRK.

G_d help us if I'm wrong

Also we would have more then enough troops to fight a two front war. We did so in WWII didnt we? Europe and Asia? So if he thinks that because we are tied up in Iraq, we wont be able to do anything over there? He is crazy. Plus there is China and Japan over there ready to step in as well if they think things are getting to crazy. They are neighbors.

Yes, but in WWII you had the draft. Bush isn't going to bring that back, because it's political suicide. The US Army is currently badly overstretched. Hell, so is ours - Afghanistan is getting ugly.
Oh and the day that China openly allies itself with Japan will be the day that hell freezes over. The Chinese still loathe the Japanese because of what they did during the war. I can't really blame them either.

If NATO has Chinese support I think a military campaign against NK to disarm is a very realistic possibility.

True. Although the likelihood of garnering China's support in NATO for a move against North Korea is highly unlikely IMO. I'm not so sure a stance should be taken against North Korea at the moment, I seriously do not believe that what they're saying they have in the way of capacity and what the reality is, coincides.

UNLESS, of course, this hasn't anything at all to do with UN Sanctions and the lifting of them respectively.

What if North Korea has exactly what they claim to have, and they do execute a test? Could it be that perhaps they want to bring that capacity to the table to open the gateway for countries like Iran and Venezuela to follow suit?

With China in North Korea's corner, they clearly have less to worry about than a Venezuela or Iran by being on the forefront of taunting the US Government. Once they open that door, and other's vow to follow suit, the US couldnt possibly strive to eliminate their capability across the span of 3 continents. It's just theory.

Im coming into this topic with little knowledge on the countries, but in my opinion, If NK tests a nuke, and we bomb them with crusie missilies etc taking out their military and other harware. This would send a great message to Iran saying that they are gona get f*cked up

The only problem with that mentality, as mentioned earlier, is China in that equation. China is the key player (with Japan maybe as a second) in the region especially because they're so deeply entrenched with North Korea. We certainly couldn't take that action unilaterally without some form of response from China.

China is definatly the "X-factor" in this situation. If NK does indeed have a successful nuclear test, the responce from China will have a great influence on how the rest world responds. I don't think anybody want's to allow lil' Kim to start World War III. China has openly shown disapproval of Kim's intentions (finally), but are they ready to stop dealing with the madman altogether?

He is off his rocker though, he obviously doesn't care about his people. Is he really delusional enough to think that setting off a nuke will get sanctions against his country dropped? Does he not realize that his current path can only make things harder on him and his people. I just hope if he does go ahead with a test that the US doesn't totally freak out and start launching cruise missles. Hopefully cooler heads will prevail.

We went through this scenario about 7-8 months ago. Somebody saw a giant hole in the ground on that Google website or its competitor, and wondered if it was a nuclear explosion site? During that short debate, it was suggested NK could put 10 K tons of dynamite along with some old nuclear materials to crate fallout, and wham! How could we tell? Or are we to depend on Bush43 and AG Gonzales? Or worse, the Oberfuhrer, Herr Rumsfeld.

Well If they were the ONLY ones reporting back with results of North Korea's activity certainly I would have to take it with the proverbial grain of salt that I typically do.

However, with Japan and South Korean having even more of a vested interest in their activity and Japan's radioactive detecting satellites constantly monitoring suspected detonation sites, I would believe it if the word came from them.

Even China's experts dont believe that there's anything, short of the US removing the currently imposed sanctions on North Korea, that could stop the North Korean Nuke test from occuring. As reported in the Shanghai Daily.

THE Democratic People's Republic of Korea will carry out a nuclear test near its border with China unless the United States cancels economic sanctions imposed on it, a Chinese government analyst said yesterday.

Read all of what Li Dunqiu, a DPRK expert at China's State Council Development Research Center , has to say about the matter.

If his assessment is true, and knowing the US the way that I do in saying that there is NO WAY that the sanctions will be lifted, I have to conclude we could be in for some serious fireworks.

I really doubt Bush will go into NK, even with China's support. Does he really want to be responsible when North Korea unloads their entire nuclear arsenal at China and the US? Those are buttons I would not want to push.

How Will We Know There Was A Nuke Test?

Seismographs all around the world will be able to detect a test.

(CTBTO) has 337 monitoring facilities.

Here is a link

www.ctbto.org...

It will most likely be above the ground, So visualy we will know where.

Well, I was talking to my broker just the other night about this, and we are both in agreement. We need another war or two to prop up falling oil prices. Damn if I haven't lost money over the last couple of months. And it was doing so well since 2003, through the roof! Yay, Bush, go get 'em!

I can only hope that Bush will attack Iran and N. Korea in order to protect my investments. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em.

I think China established the principle that the US would not go into North Korea. In 1953, at Panmunjon. (I have been there, by the way, in late 1953.)

I think NK's Kim is playing one of his infamous 'who blinks first' games in order for the US to remove those sanctions slapped upon him. I doubt Bush will back down and meet Kim face-to-face, however. I don't think KJI is *that* foolish to test a nuke... it could ultimately lead to his demise. This guy is playing one high-stakes power game here...

That's problem - start the bombing and he will start the shelling. The NKs have thousands of guns dug in within range of Seoul. They also have a fully functioning air defence system (in 2003 Iraq's fell apart because it had been corroded to pieces by sanctions) plus silkworms and other rockets. Plus a very large ground force. It would have to be met with like force.
It would get very messy very quickly.
I hate to sound glib, but the best way to stop Kim Jong-Il would be to threaten the destruction of the US porn film industry. He has a scary collection.

We cannot allow either this guy nor that idiot in Iran to have nukes period. So if we have to place a few well placed cruise missles into NK then so be it. Better to get rid of the problem over there than to have to deal with it over HERE....NK doesnt have the capability to deliver a warhead to American soil. With our ability to knock out enemy communications ( the key to war these days ) we would effectively cut off the head of the monster then kill the body. ( the body being his nuke program and sites ). Then let him cry about it. He is nothing more than an elementary school bully who needs to have his nose bloodied before he learns to keep his mouth shut and his hands to himself.
