future of pc monitors?

I have had a 17 inch flat panel monitor for several years now, and its showing signs that it will "bite the big one" soon...So i'm looking around now for a new monitor.

I'm wondering...What the trend going towards? widescreen or the normal square look.

The trend is slowly moving to "widescreen" or 16X9.

It will be a while before everything is in wide screen, so either is oki for now.

Do you watch moves on this???
Are They wide screen versions??
If they are not, you must either strech the image or deal with black bars on the sides.

movies...rarly. (I use my HDTV for that)
I'm looking at widescreen monitors...around the $250 - 300 area, either a 19 of 20 inch, the average resolution of them seems to be 1440 x 900. I hope Vista supports that resolution.

It is the hardwear that determines resolution-videocard and monitor.

I am currently running 1280X1024 with vista.

I'm in agreement with monsieur monsoon, that currently
either works.

Personally I'd go with the square, I dislike rectangles.


You know I though this was a thread about the future of them,
like some new technology had come out.

The true future of monitors IMO is either hlographic or neural
implants.
