Whats up with the Priests and Alter boys???

Like I said other protestant denominations and other faiths have admitted to having similar problems among their own married clergy, so clearly the problem is not with celibacy. I have to be informed. Of course the Catholic Church will get the most attention, it is the largest denomination by far.

Guess you don't know there are married Catholic priests, some are converts, others are from the Catholic Eastern Rites. The Latin Rite of Catholicism practises celibacy. Problems still happen there too in those Rites, so your point of it would help if they would be married doesn't hold up.

Being married won't clear or help anything. Child molestors are child molestors married or unmarried. It is already in their heads. What needs to be done is careful screening of potential priests or leaders for the other faiths. Maybe psy- evals or something.

Okay Cearbhall,,,,I know what defrocked meant before you explained it. My mother is 100% Italian and from a very Roman Catholic family!!! I was at one time a Catholic(CCD, Church every Weekend, Bible class, Communion, and Confirmation) So you are speaking to someone who knows the terms and actions taken. But what you may not know that here in NJ there are several accused men of the cloth,,Not being handed over to the authorities,,weren't defrocked, and they're only punishment is not particiapating in the readings of the Gospel at Mass. I do respect your beliefs and sorry if I do come off a lil strong against the Catholics,,but this kind of thing makes me sick to my stomach,,Being a father of two and all,,,,,

Were these priests convicted of molestation? Were the auhorities informed or involved in any investigations? Accusations and convictions are two different things. Give me more info if you can por favor.

You know as a lay person you could take this over the bishop and go to the arch bishop and beyond if you really needed too. I suggest you talk to the bishop, request an appointment and ask him of such things, if you don't like it or it hasn't been settled then go over him.

Yea it is kinda tough to talk about these things! I know how Arnold feels brother!

Funny, isn't it? A 18 year old sleeps with his 17 year old g/f, he goes to jail for statutary rape. A 40 year old rapes a 8 year old multiple times so he isn't allowed to join in on readings at church.

Also, if you are going to rape someone, why 8 year old boys? Why not the hot 16 year old teen in a short skirt? Or the 30 year old woman? Why not any kind of woman? Why little boys?

Because these people James are sick in the head that needs help! It is a sickness like anything else. It is sad but true.

We have to understand that everyone is addicted to something, good or bad. We must do our best as parents to protect and educate our children. Let's teach our children to be aware of pederasty. We tell them not to talk to strangers but we never mention why. Let's come out of the uneducated closet and attack the problem together. Let's get rea!

It seems the percentage of molestations occurring in the Catholic church are no greater than among the general public.... No?

And I have yet to hear of a priest killing a child after molesting them.

So, if I were a kid who had to be molested I think I would take my chances with the priest. Because joe inbred down the street might just kill me when he was done.

I agree the liberal media is hyping it up because quite frankly they don't like 'god' very well ...

The price of faith?........The exposure may also point to what appears to be the lack of any real supernatural control. Rewarding a potentially domino affected alter boy with these 'wages' of sin? Bringing a system of a monetary based faith to it's knees; reaping what they have sown?

Maybe if we actually lived in an equal society without the need for a monetary based system, we probably wouldn't have any need for religious organizations either.

I just thought i'd pipe in... My mother, who was a social worker, and is now an inspector of children's homes, and schools and the like was, about 4 years ago, offered a job working for the Catholic church.

She is not religious at all... but the position she was offered was basically to investigate priests who interfere with children.

That's all I have to say really. She didn't take the job. I was just shocked that there was a WHOLE DEPARTMENT dedicated to this. To me it shows that it is a MASSIVE concern in the the church, and a lot more common than I'd thought. But, it also shows that they are trying to tackle it. (although I have no idea if the department is efficient or not, as my Mother did not take the job).
