I Don't know if anybody saw, but Koppel is having a new 90 minute documentary on the constitutional price of security, and whether its a good or bad thing, next Sunday (the 10th) at 8pm EST.

It sounds to be a very interesting documentary

dhd.discovery.com... pi=25395&gid=0&channel=DHD

After seeing this documentary, it got me thinking. It's been 5 years now after 9/11, we've had alot of events that occured in and between. We know now about secret prisons, NSA wiretapping, new "know-it-all" Census programs. In some cases, not being allowed to disagree with the governments actions or even boycott Israeli goods.

So, heres the two questions and the topic at hand: What is the price of Security, meaning what is, and what should be, the cost of securing ourselves against the invisible enemies. And, do you feel safer now, aftering paying the price?

Did you say you have already watched the documentary or just the previews? I had thought that it hadn't aired yet.

Anyway, I am wondering what this show is about -- to expose? or to cover up what is going on?

I havent seen it yet, from what I understand, its to expose. Its a critical look on what it costs us, in terms of our freedom and privacy, to "secure" ourselves.

The price of security (or all this new 'security') is a culture of surveillance: what you say (internet), what you buy (credit cards), where you go (travel), what you read (libraries), who you meet (real world and online), what your 'tastes' are etc etc...

It's like we're all being profiled but for what? for security?

Is it the heralding in of a 1984 style Big Brother? I guess it depends on your view of the future.

If you're a pessimist then the future will be airtight security for those priveleged enough to be among those worth protecting from 'them' 'out there' the 'evildoers' and the great decider will see all, provide for all and check you off his big list if your profile becomes non-aligned. A born again Utopia.

However, I'm an optimist and have no faith in man at all. After the global warming, the raising and lowering of the ionosphere with haarp, the new space (cough) 'defense' systems, miniature sun and black hole creations, gen and clone projects out of control and rampant, nano particle flu, 'accidental' release of bio plagues, selective virus's, EMP saturation, playing God with the world and let's not forget Big Muther nature herself. After all that is done with us. Then who is going to sit behind the screen and monitor the cameras? The black box of all human knowledge and all our uploaded profiles will sit blinking away with nobody around to ponder it's meaning.

One thing that gets me thinking is . . . if we are a nation that under security and for the good of the citizens we are tagged, tabulated and have no say so in the matters of what we can not not do. . .

Are we truly a free society, like our govenrment likes to preach when it comes to what is considered comunist, socialist, tyrants or totalitarian ones.

The only thing I see that we have freedom off . . . is for spending and getting into debt. . .

I wonder.
