Israel votes to push deeper into Lebanon

Israel’s cabinet has voted to push ground forces up to the Litani River 18 miles into Lebanon. This is fantastic news at this time, this will allow Israel to make a wide buffer prior to any UN resolution or proposed fix by Lebanon. The buffer will mitigate the massive onslaught of Hezbollah (Iranian) missiles raining down on the Israeli civilians daily.

By moving fast, Israel has the opportunity to build leverage prior to any other resolutions or plans being put in place. This way they can basically veto any arrangement that would allow Hezbollah to rearm and occupy these areas (like proposed by Lebanon). To show that Israel is open to the peace process however, they will wait a few days for UN negotiations to advance prior to implementing this push to the Litani River.

JERUSALEM (CNN) -- Israel's Security Cabinet recommended Wednesday that the Israeli military expand its campaign against Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.

Israeli ground forces are now authorized to push up to the Litani River, 18 miles (29 kilometers) inside Lebanon, in an attempt to eliminate Hezbollah rocket launchers before any U.N. cease-fire resolution is passed.

Cabinet Minister Eli Yishai told The Associated Press the proposed operation was expected to take 30 days, although a U.N. resolution is expected before then.

Israel gets it done.

Latest word is they will push to the Litani "and beyond" if necessary. In hopes of the giving the UN a little time they said the new offensive wouldnt begin for 2-3 days.

My questions is this. Syria keeps saying if Israel comes closer then they will do something about it. Well, it looks like this is gonna bring them closer. Anyone bet Syria will do anything about it?
