Since it's Father's Day, I thought it would be fitting to ask members what their best childhood (or adulthood) memory is of dad......here's
mine.
This is one of my earliest memories....must of been 4 or 5 years old. Dad took me to the neighborhood playground......I remember playing on the swing
by myself when a "large" girl and her friends starting making fun of me for some reason. The girl took me by my long ponytail and pulled me off the
swingset. She pushed me down and stepped on my legs. Of course, I ran to my dad crying with a bloody knee.
He did not hold me or console me.
He told me if I did not go back over to the girl and punch her straight in the mouth, then I was going to get it far worse from him when I got home.
My father never lifted his hand to me so this threat was new to me. I went back over to the girl, stood on tippy toes and clocked her right in the
nose.
Words were exchanged between my dad and the girl's mother and we left.
Some of you might not prescribe to this brand of child rearing but my dad could not abide bullies.
I miss him.
