Space Explorations (SpaceX) had there first rocket launch today...and unfortunatly it failed about 1 1/2 minutes into flight.

I'm sure this will deffiniatly slow that companies plans down.
The rocket was 2/3 the price of a rocket of equal size sold elsewhere, it was hopped that it would significantly lower the access to space.

SpaceX rocket failure

It shows that getting to space is in fact, still a formitable challenge.

And just why would they do that?

The military is their biggest customers so I doubt that was the problem. This just seems like a set back for SpaceX, its trial and error until you get things right, and I'm sure Elon Musk recognises this.

It seems that is was a fuel leak that brought it down.

Fuel leak apparently doomed Falcon 1

I'm suprised that he thinks he can launch again in as little as 6 months.

heres the picture that shows the main engines top burning.

It sounds like they need to redesign the LOX cover as well. That can cause them problems if it doesn't release properly when they launch.

I'm not at all. They're a very ambitious company. After all, look how long it took for them to get to this first launch! Besides, they're not NASA.
