SCIENTISTS believe they are on the brink of recreating the world of the long-lost dodo after uncovering a "beautifully preserved" cache of bones from the extinct bird on the island of Mauritius.

The Dutch and Mauritian-led team which made the discovery yesterday gave the first details of the haul of fossils and the bones of other extinct birds and reptiles, including giant tortoises, and material from plants and trees.

It would certainly be interesting to see how those dodo birds did live. Scientists have discovered these fossils, what would be the chance that if they could reproduce their surrounding habitats that they wouldn't want to reproduce a real live dodo from the dna in the fossils.

It's also amazing that the last dodo was alive during the 1680s. They lasted only 80 years after Europeans landed on Mauritius.
