And now they are 130 meters away !

Well, the Russians have been asked to stop drilling because the rig they are using, uses Kerosene to melt the ice as the bit moves deeper.

The worlds leading Scientists have asked them (The Russians) to stop drilling because they will contaninate the site.

And now the Russians in Antartica are 130 meters away from breaking through into Lake Vostok.

The Russians will pollute the lake with Kerosene as the bit breaks through into Lake Vostok and the most pristine water on earth will lost to ignorance and greed.

Antarctica is the world's most secure bank

Russian scientists have drilled the ice to nearly 3,700 meters reaching the time equivalent of 440,000 years. The drilling is conducted above the underground lake in the vicinity of the Russian station Vostok.

Russian scientists intend to continue drilling though the main objectives of their research are glaciology and paleontology.

They are going to reach the underground lake after drilling the last 130 meters. The underground lake may have some unknown life forms.

The current situation has changed for the better. Geographer and glaciologist Vladimir Kotlyakov, who was one of the founders of the project in the 1960s, currently the president of the Russian Geographic Society, said that specialists of the St.Petersburg-based Mining Academy developed the equipment, which would be capable of reaching the prehistoric lake without polluting it. The groundbreaking project is planned to be resumed: scientists are eagerly waiting for unbelievable discoveries to arrive.
