Many people and countries blieve that USA is a devilish nation or at least it has some devils at Pentagon and White House.
Blieve it or not, a world without US supremacy will not be save at all.

Look at Afriqa, if there is an conflict between two Afriqan nations, who will they ask for help? EU? China? Russia? Northern Korea? Iraq? Somalia? Brazil? No, they will ask USA for help. Even in Jugoslavia the people asked U.S. for help, but the EU said we can handle that situation and started to bomb Milosevic's Jugoslavia.

Offcourse it brings some disadvantages, like the Soviet Comms brought. But bliefe me its better than Chinese or European supremacy.

What is your opinion about that?

That is the irony of the US's position. The US is blamed for getting into everyone's business, but they are often asked to help and get involved. When the US doesn't get involved they're accused of not doing enough to help. There is no winning situation.

McGrudge,

Let me tell you some: everybody is blaming U.S. for every bad event that is happend. If once salary is not paid they blame USA, if the economics are not good in once country they blame USA, in Iraq they blame USA for the insurgency etc... but who is blaming Britain? Nobody!
Britain is more the devil than USA. But the British government is playing smart. To attack Saddam was a British idea. Bush was planning an attack on Iran.

A week ago Iraqi police arrested two British soldiers in Arab clothes. They were attacking police stations and detonating boms, result: many US soldiers and cilvilans died. Who is blaming the Britains? Again nobody! Why? 'Cause its the game that Britain plays

One reason among dozens not to keep ourselves in such a position.
Being King of the Hill only means everyone wants to see you knocked off.

I for one don't want to see my family's future squandered because a bunch of belligerent dopes frozen in adolescence rely on warped strategies of "global dominance" to restore their failing virility. Viagra is cheaper, kids...

well... I see Britain as a sort of puppet of the US. They've not been a world power since before the second world war, if not much earlier. If the US persuades British intelligence to do some nasty thing, and they get caught, well it wasn't the US. It effectively disconnects the US from that action.

And... has there been any official explanation of the action of those Brits?

The British government demanded the release of the two British soldiers. They said that they were on duty!!!!!

Theres always going to be big guys on the block on the world stage. If WW2 turned out it might have been Germany or Japan in that same position. If the cold war turned out differently the USSR could have been the sole remaining Super power.

Chances are the next Superpower will be China but as long as the US is here to balance it as a Super Power things wont be too different.

But O man If China becomes a sole super power in the world people are going to laugh at how bad they thought the US was.

Unless they become a democratic allied nation

I'm not so sure about that, China doesn't have anything close to the US's record of sticking it's nose into everyone else's business. When was the last time China got itself into a war... 1979? How many has the US been in since then?

On the other hand, the US doesn't have anything close to China's record of using force against it's own citizens...

You know why the Chinese aren't sticking their nose into everyone else's business? Because they want their economy be the best in the world. They know if you start a war it affect your economy and thats what they are not looking for!

Britain is a power too, but not a military power. Just a political power that involves with every event behind the scenes in the world.

Britain has jetfighers, warships etc..., India, China, Iran, Turkey, Israel do have the same. So why are they not a super power?

I have to agree but China does not have want I would call military super power yet, it cant Project power like the USSR or US could. Weak Nations close to China like Tibet didnt fair to well though they didnt have to project power very far to do so.

I dont think I can think of a single nation we would call a super power in history that didnt intervene with other nations affairs in a big way. Rome, British Empire, Spanish Empire, USSR, US etc.. it seems to be even worse when its a unbalanced super power. Though Russia is no longer a Super Power it still has the nuclear arsenal of one and can still balance out the US in a military sense.

If China became a sole super power I really dont seem them bein any different from other ones in history.

A country is a super power when you are able to fight at many fronts. Countries like USA, China, India and Russia are the only countries who can fight in another continent and at many fronts possible without the help of others.

Countries like Iran, Britain, Australia, The Netherlands, Israel, Northern Korea etc... don't have the possibility to relocate its troops or even fight at different fronts.

I don't see Britain fighting against Islamic Republic in the Middle-East, againts N.Korea In the East and somewhere in Afriqa on their own at the same time! Unless they get help from the rest of the EU or the world.

i find this topic funny in some ways
of the way you make out the US is a god given saint

the US has a large history of sticking its nose in places where it isnt wanted and interfering with countries that it doesnt like.

and there is a big diffrence between helping and bullying.

if you play nice and do as you said Uncle sam will play nice with you and give you his toys

if you disagree with them uncle same will throw a tantrem and start a fight

The US is the main superpower because it has both major political and military advantage than any other country, it controls a decent amount of the world economy, it has a large amount of income per year, most of the world news is always focused on the US.
Because of this, they are able to influence other countries alot easier.

If it was any other country they would be doing the same thing the US is doing now.. having such a power forces you to do everything you can to preserve it.

Because now the sun does set on the British Empire. They once were very powerful. They arguably had the best navy in the world for centuries, but they seem to have lost it all once the colonies began seeking independence.

The Brits have power, its just a second rate power.
Not the type of power that would certainly earn respect or attention as America's.

I know exactly what you mean and I agree.

If the USA would get off the 'We're Number ONE' world power, ego trip and take care of its own people and its own interests, stop trying to be everything to everyone else, be compassionate when possible, but take care of its citizens and needs first, maybe our own people would not be so divided and up in arms and ready to kill each other!!

And maybe, just maybe, everyone wouldn't hate us so much!
