Doom Weapons

I watched a little documentary type commercial a while back, and wondered "what the???" at some of the weapons there. One of them looked like the XM8, and another seemed like some Ion Cannon. Can any1 give me a bit of info on the weapons plz? I'm just curious b4 I go see it.

Plasma rifle was always my fave in the game...but of course, nothing beats the BFG9000 (Big F'in Gun!)....for sheer destruction of everything on the screen, hehe....just make that slow shot count.

I never knew what "BFG" meant but I always assumed that's what it meant.
That was Quake though...............wasn't it? One place I worked at that's all most of the employees did all day, play against each other. The boss was always wondering why all of our monitors were facing the wall. The BFG was a bad mo-fo with those green beams coming off of it. You would slowly disintegrate.
