I just caught the end of this after reading an alert, but it's chaos on the floor.

Following this from Tom Coburn trying to block the multi-million dollar bridge to pork city, Sen. Ted Stevens (from Alaska) threatened to resign if the amendment blocking his bridge passes.

It's on the floor now, but they took a break to talk about the bird flu while the Sentate figured out how to act on TV.

www.clubforgrowth.org... is blogging it live.

Coburn is on now.

Good rationale for the amendment, wants to cut pork, silence from the chamber.

Wants to move 125m of money to be used for the Bridge into LA reconstruction efforts.

Murkowski (R) is trying to spin it as making Alaska make the whole sacrifice for New Orleans.

Um, no. Your bridge is pointless to begin with sweetie.

I've been reading the Alaska opine sections. It's an embarrassment to the people. All 50 of them it'll serve.

BIGGER than the Golden Gate! :shk:

Voting...

Wow... I had no idea that this bill was up there...

I hate Tom Coburn, but respect the hell out of him for this one...
he speaks for the people on this issue (can't say on others)

rarely will you see anyone reject a republican push for a pork project... but this project should have never been considered...

quote: alaska "this hurts alaska alone, why do you have the right to pull money from our state?"
ahhhh, duh... cause you dont deserve to waste it, when it is needed somewhere else...

I also like how one of the alaska reps was thinking that Tom was a louisiana politician... "acting for his own district" hah... Tom doesn't gamble... and he doesn't party... so why would he even visit there? he seems to be speaking what we are all are wondering...

why pay so much to help 50 unsociable people living on an island, when the same funds can help millions on the mainland?

in fact... why not ask those 50 people and see if they still want it... knowing what it takes away from... I bet they would understand...

the politican that promised nice bridge building contracts to his buddies wont like it though. bastard...

and a big thumbs up for the crazy cowboy from OK

Doesn't sound like it by the votes I'm hearing. Pork wins.

Wow, they should really be embarrased. There was a massive bi-partisan grassroots effort all day between redstate and kos to make GOP leadership recognize and pass this.

Screw us, huh? The bridge to nowhere marches on!

Nice try though.

The scoop is with Porky McPorkerson (Stevens) being Senate Commerce Committe Chairman he's in a position to punish the states with any yes votes.

So everyone is caving to the culture of corruption.

This is a travesty. There's not going to be more than 10 yes votes.

Pointless. Wasted day.

Geeeezzzz...

they were caught with there pants down, unit in hand, and still say "we aren't wanking aroung here"...
they have BALLS!... and a firm belief that we the sheeples have no say in the matter...

how about we send around our own punishment e-mail, that says the "no" votes get NO votes from us...

The corporation of corruption that is our government is once again right off track...

I do hope that everyone can see why the yes votes were yes votes...
blackmail... and the only ones that didn't play, were the greenie newbs...

New politicians are alright until they learn how to get things done the wrong way.
We really need to revise the way things are done here, or we have lost our voice.

Yes, let the New Alaskan Golden Gate bridge be built... for its 50 embarrased citizens...

Let us all be sure to revel in its extravagance...and marvel at its waste...

maybe we should all send an e-mail letting the alaskan senator know that we know he is a corrupt slimeball. Let us all tell our children of how he is a scoundrel, and that his children and his childrens children should be ashamed to bare his name.

He and his agenda are what is wrong with america, and the cause of its fall...
he isn't alone... he had 80 other senators that agreed with his corrupt agenda...
those 80 others should also have ashamed children...
How can these corrupt politicians sleep? because it is so widespread, it isn't even seen as wrong anymore... only the Newbie senators see the truth of the weakness... and they are quickly brought in tow with the party line...

I am sure that Tom Coburn had dinner last night with some very important people that explained that he can't do what he did... without reprisal that would hurt his constituents (funding punishment)

this game called politics is no longer won by the best honorable players... but the ones that can cheat and bluff best.
that leaves Americans little choice but to clean house... or three houses to be exact...
vote anything besides republican or democrat for 2008... it is the only way to change our country back to its proud roots.
