Military: New Aluminum Windows Stop .50-Caliber Bullet.

Now this would be a big step in amour protection for air craft, personel carriers and even the clerk at 7-11.

Just think, light weight see through metal that will stop the largest sniper weapon used or even possibly stop road side bombs from blowing through car door windows and saving lives!

here is the link to the article,

www.livescience.com...

The material is a ceramic compound with a high compressive strength and durability, according to an Army statement issued this week. It performs better than the multilayered glass products currently in use, and its about half the weight. It is virtually scratch-resistant.

I heard about this " Transparent armour " before its pretty interesting. Stopping a .50 cal AP round is a impressive feat for anything you can also see through.

You read it wrong, it says it is a ceramic compound, containing aluminium oxynitride. The aluminium is chemically bound to oxygen and nitrogen and hence is not in metallic form.

Ah Star Trek IV that was the movie that "Jumped the shark" or the whale

Interesting that it is so much like the fictional material in Star Trek.
