NEWS: Feds Prepare for Super-Flu Disaster

United States officials are working on disaster scenarios involving flu pandemics. They are focusing on such things as anti flu drugs, hospital staff and how many people would be effected in best and worst case scenarios. Resources such as food, water and housing are being considered in the ongoing comprehensive study.



As we have found from previous issues such as SARS or the basic shortage of flu shots, its best to be prepared and have a working model to focus on in the worst case scenario.

The problem with these cases are they are just scenarios. They may never plan for disasters that are much larger. We can look at the hurricane Katrina issue and see how an impact a disaster can have.

Considering how many people would be sick, its best to plan ahead of time for such things as hospitals etc.

This is also not just an issue for the United States to look at.

your newsday link goes to a different story -- you might want to fix that one. Other than that it is a really interesting article. I really think that the hurricanes have shown that all emergency plans need work. Hopefully they will be putting some effort into coming up with some good plans.

I would have to agree. This year the State and Federal agencies in charge of such operations haven't shown that great of a track record. And if Bush is working on it God knows what could happen. With our luck he would appoint one of his golfing buddies that have no experience to head it up. Lets just hope that there is no need for such a thing to be put into action. I couldn't even imagine what it would be like if a flu virus broke out in America.

..but given the feds ability to "manage" a crisis, I am thinking I would rather be on my own to take care of friends and family. Water, food and housing are things that most of us can prepare in advance for and should be already.

Things like anti-virals and emergency services are not a given nor should they be expected should a worse case scenario result. We should all be asking ourselves - what can, what do I need to do myself and those I love?

I find it interesting that Bush was reading a book about the big flu outbreak that occured decades ago. I wouldn't be surprised if they are planning this outbreak to kill off some people and make some money. I will not get a vaccine, it will be the wrong one anyway plus how the hell do i know wtf they put in that #. Who checks to see if the vaccine does what it is supposed to and that it doesn't insert some terminator style nanobots into your body?

While I agree it was interesting that Bush was reading that book a few months ago - my interest is more on the lines of what do they know they aren't telling us. I don't think it was something planned to get rid of people. Although if anyone would do it for money the pharmaceutical companies sure would I guess.

Seems they are also preparing to use federal troops and place state national guard units under federal control as well.

President George W. Bush said last week he would consider using the military to "effect a quarantine" in response to any outbreak of avian influenza, but provided few details.

Bush at the time also suggested he might place National Guard troops, normally commanded by state governors, under federal control as part of the government's response to the "catastrophe" of such a flu pandemic.

I think that all this flu talk is BS i have never hade a flu shot and i almost never get sick. a co-worker of mine gets one every year and gets sick every year. he finally stopped 2 years ago and hasen't been sick since. My grandparents and a uncle all went to get their flu shot in 1994 and all three were dead by 1995. they were so healthy until then. Then they all died of cancer. flu shot!!! no way

I don't think the avian flu talk is BS, but I share your views on flu shots. Not me, neighbor. And it has probably been 20 years since I've had the flu.

it will be too difficult to discern and to pinpoint the culprits reasoning.
The complexity of this current (obviously contrived) 'bird-flu pandemic' issue is so convoluted, that discussion in internet forums (like here on ATS)
leads to numberous threads spiriling into dead-ends,

item- the general populace is considered 'useless eaters'
item- Elites & Bilderberg, incl Dr. Henry Kissinger, have stated the notion that only 500 million people are needed to sustain a (NWO)managed, utopian world.
item- Vaccines have been found to been systematically contaminated with carcinogens & other terminal illnesses ..(see archives of prison planet &/or infowars)...Korean & Taiwan supplies of vaccines.
item- to control food; poultry farms & turkey, chicken, geese, ducks have each had their turn at the ongoing, assaults & scares/recalls/illnesses
we see the contant fish, cow, swine production attacks....until all those industries are under corporate/fascist control & regulation, sometime in the future...but i suspect that vegetables and grains will once again be targeted...so as to wipe out the organic farms and the free-range animal producers from any supply network throughout the world.

yes indeed...in general the Bush&Co spin ...is that the military is the best option on the table right now, to provide massive response & relief operations......but first the present system of State & local authority over the 'invited' military must be done-away-with.
