Need help with digital photography (quick)

Im trying to photograph the northern lights with my digital camera. Im thinking its pretty much impossible, I cannot obtain a good night time shot ever.

Any advice?

I have never seen the norther lights this great. Absolutely amazing. At one point it looked like a green tornado. Ive never seen them dip this low. And so bright !

Ive tried every setting I have, no luck. Its just too cheap of a camera and not near enough light to pick up.

Its a good show though.

Your only hope is a manual setting..Do you have a film camera around?
