Israeli forces have fired artillery shells into the northern Gaza Strip as a symbolic act to warn Palestinian militants to stop their attacks on Israelis. Israel also fired 'non-exploding' shells into the same area on Sunday.

www.foxnews.com
Israel fired live artillery shells into the northern Gaza Strip on Tuesday night in what Israeli security officials said was a symbolic act to warn Palestinian militants to halt their attacks on Israelis.

The officials, speaking on condition of anonymity under department regulations, said four shells were fired into open ground from which Palestinians had earlier fired rockets into the nearby Israeli town of Sderot. No casualties were reported in either incident.

Earlier Tuesday, the Israeli military said the air force bombed waste ground near the north Gaza town of Beit Hanoun that had been used for rocket launches. It was not immediately clear if the artillery fire was against the same site.

It seems obvious that the so called peace that should have followed the Israeli withdrawl will not come easily.

I hope that in coming years relations between these two parties can be bettered.

There is enough carnage in the Middle East at the moment without this escalating once again.

Will the fighting never end? Now Palestnie will have to return fire. Then Israel fires back...

The bloodshed continues...

interesting... nice ploy israel...

say " they shot first" even though i have seen no news reports of such... in fact, the palestinians seemed to be rather happy and quiet with the win of gaza...

so now israel seems to be having remorses.. and decides to instigate a war again...

these people like to fight, and they choose to fight...
so let them fight and die...

I would have to say, unless someone posts good links otherwise, that this is a fight that israel is picking... and they should now lay in there own bed...
without our support...

neither side is free from blame, but israel had no right to start things again...
all on there side of the street...

on the other hand, is this some ploy to please the hardliners, that didn't want to give it away in the first place?

Lazarus, perhaps you should check before saying anything about this..... last I heard on the news Palestinians shot 21 rockets into Israel from Gaza, and this is why Israel is responding in this manner.

GAZA CITY, (AFP) - Israel launched its first air strikes on the Gaza Strip since its historic pullout from the territory following a deluge of militant rocket attacks endangering hopes of a new era in Middle East peace.

Helicopters carried out pre-dawn attacks on arms factories operated by Islamist fundamentalist group Hamas in Gaza City and the Jabaliya refugee camp in the north of the territory, the army said.

Witnesses said three Palestinians were wounded in the attacks, which came just hours after 21 rockets fired from northern Gaza
rained down on the town of Sderot in southern Israel, wounding five Israelis.

I have posted this elsewhere, but it bears repeating ...
Once the border with Egypt was opened Hamas smuggled in...
www.debka.com...
1. 3,000 automatic rifles. The new supply, most of which is destined for Hamas, gives the organization a total of 10,000 Kalashnikovs, enough for thousands of new recruits.

2. Hundreds of AT-23 Sagger anti-tank missiles.

3. SAM-14 Strela anti-air missiles – quantity unknown.

4. Improved Qassam surface missiles. Their range is 13km or 18km, depending on whether Israeli or Egyptian intelligence evaluations are accepted. The shorter-range can reach Ashkelon, the longer one can menace the southern suburbs of the Ashdod port town, Ashkelon, Kiryat Gath, Kiryat Malachi (where the Israeli President’s private home is located), Ofakim, Netivot and prime minister Ariel Sharon’s Sycamore Ranch.

5. Land mines of different types – quantity unknown.

6. More than 250 tons of explosives.

In addition, an estimated 500-700 armed and highly-trained men have infiltrated Gaza through Sinai to boost the ranks of the Hamas and Jihad Islami.

They are believed to include Palestinian terrorists from Lebanon, as well as al Qaeda operatives and fugitives who have been on the run from Egyptian security since the Taba and Sharm al Sheikh bombing attacks. Israel’s AMAN suspects that Iranian Revolutionary Guards spies may have been smuggled in with the traffic, their assignment being to establish an Iranian terrorist infrastructure like the one Tehran has set up in Iraq.

After that they kidnapped a businessman and executed him
www.debka.com...
Nuriel is shown blindfolded, talking to his captors against the background of a large green Hamas flag. They abducted Nuriel, father of three, aged 50, last Wednesday, Sept. 21, in Jerusalem. The late businessman lived in Pisgat Zeev in northern Jerusalem.

Israels attempts to bring peace by removing their bases from Gaza are merely seen by the palastinians as weakness and given them the incentive to attack even more.

so much for peace overtures....

Netchicken! Let's play fair.....

Everybody knows they only throw rocks over there. We have all seen that on television.

An Israeli throws a rock, so the Palestians pick it up and throw it back.....or if they are lucky they hoard them until the Israelis run out of rocks. Then they really clean some clock!

From the arms list you give one would think the Americans are backing these people.

Actually there are several countries that supply weapons to such groups, and the US is not one of them.

Why would the US sell arms to one of the terrorist groups (yes, HAMAS is a terrorist group) that is attacking one of the few true allies we have left?

Then i stand by my original statement..."unless someone shows links to the contrary"

although, if you research it, hamas was responding to the shooting of 3 islamic jihad militants in west bank, and a bomb that went off in gaza killing 15 (still a stupid reaction) ...
so with 15 people dead, they figured that israel had stopped the ceasefire... so why not shoot rockets? Now they are back on the cease fire track ...after getting the snot beat out of them by israel.
follow from the begining

so in essence... the israelis fired first AGAIN... albeit independant israelis did the first shooting/bombing, not official military (supposidly)....
but who fired first is a cyclic argument...

At this point, I think the whole area is doomed to be perpetual war...
they need to throw down the gloves and get down to some serious mass slaughter and genocide...
a big blood arena where no one leaves alive until one religion kills the other one off... it is what they have wanted for decades, they are just not honest enough to admit it...

IMO the UN needs to spray 100 tons of pig grease over the entire land and make it fit for neither muslim, or jew... the salted earth project becomes the salted pork project.

The hunt and elemination of terrorists that were or are connected to bombings and deaths of innocent israelis never stopped.
The fact that you see the elimination of those terrorists as a provocation says anough about you.

yeah, lets go make this personal shall we... NOT...

My position is that both sides want genocide of the other...
and in regards to your comment...
you didn't read that the bombing that broke the cease fire... KILLED PALESTINIANS, NOT ISRAELIS..
the fact that you see it is ok for Israel to fire first, says enough about you.

so you support the breaking of the cease fire, for the purposes of going after peaceful "ceased fire" civilians in market centers...
that policy has no peaceful end my friend....

Laz, the Israelis fired back after the palastinains sent rockets into a kibbutz.

Sharon told the palastinians that if they continued to attack them after the Gaza settlements were emptied then Israel would not stop from making a strong response.

Thats what the "warning shots" are about in the initial post.

The palastinians NEVER stopped attacking, even as the soldiers were leaving they were fired upon, and roads were mined.

The palastinians NEVER saw the removal of the Gaza settlements as a sign that peace was going to happen, they only saw it as weakness that Israel gave up, that their attacks were working. With that mindset they are not only continuing to attack, but are stepping up their attacks.

Missed my point entirely...

the Palestinian rocket attacks were a response to the bombing attack by israel on civilian palestinians that were assembled in gaza square area... they were civilians
that is why the original peace was ruined (before the israeli reprisals and warning shots)

as i have said before... it was a stupid move on palestinians part to counterattack with rockets, for the israeli bombing... but is as understandable as anything else that has happened.

israel denies the original bombing attacks, but it kinda couldn't be anyone else...
15 CIVILIANS died from the israeli terrorist bombing attack...

this is all before the palestinian rockets were launched... (shots are fired by both sides every day, so that isn't a good claim)

so what i am again pointing out... is the argument is cyclic...
who started it? well, I guess that would be israel when they performed the 6 day war...
who continued it? the palestinians that lived there, and moved there following.
and so the story goes....

they all can say, "we did this becasue of that...."
it matters not, because when you have an eye for an eye, everyone just ends up blind...

I stay by my statement...
spray pig grease over the entire area, and run them all off...
or take the gloves off and get the genocide over...

it isn't about peace for either side... it is about eradication of the enemy...

Oh Lazarus, how niave can you get

Even the Palastinain authority admit that there WAS NO rocket attack, a hamas truck carrying rockets blew up. They did it upon themselves.

There has been no peace, there has been no attempt at peace. Did you actually read the posts prior to this or do you just repeat yourself each time?

If you really don't want the truth just say so and be honest, we will understand.

So please reead the following source

PLO Executive Committee Brings Hamas Responsible for Jabalyia's Explosion

GAZA, Palestine, September 24,2005 (IPC+Agencies)--PLO Executive Committee placed full responsibility squarely at Islamic movement "Hamas" shoes for the explosion in the parade carried out by the movement amongst the civilians in the a densely populated refugee camp Jabalyia , north Gaza city.

"The Fatah Central Committee holds the Hamas movement fully responsible for the victims of the military parade [that was held] among civilians," the committee said in a statement.

The parade by Hamas in densely populated refugee camp resulted in the killing of 19 civilians, 120 wounded, 20 critically.

Netchicken... I did read them, but skimmed over the longer ones...
they all say that israel sent rockets into gaza in response to a rocket attack by palestinians...(which is true... of course)

so are you are saying that the palestinians are the ones responsible for the bombing of the 15 palestinian civilians in Gaza?

if so... I get you... hadn't seen any such admittal in the bbc article i looked at, but maybe more has come out... sorry if i missed it in above posts...

Ahhh, thanks for bringing that post to my attention Riwka... I see now...
Sorry, I was going by research done earlier, that didnt' list that info yet...

yeah... that action would qualify under "making your own bed" and getting killed by it...

and netchicken,
I dont have anything against the truth... But i haven't seen any action on either parties part (with the excpetion of giving gaza) that says that either side really wants peace...
and the gaza deal nearly split the israeli government, so the feeling of wanting peace,by the present government doesn't carry over to the people...
they still just want to kill each other...

Yes. The HAMAS are THAT stupid.

And this has been reported all over the world - not only in Israel and within the PA.

Hamas immediately blamed Israel for the blast. Israel denied it, and on Sunday, Abbas said an investigation by the Palestinian Authority determined that the blast was caused by one of Hamas' own shells dropping out of a vehicle laden with weapons. Nevertheless, as "retaliation," Hamas launched rocket attacks against Israeli towns.

Chicago Tribune: An explosion in Gaza

and

The Palestinian Authority said the blast was caused when Hamas militants mishandled explosives during the celebration of Israel's withdrawal from Gaza

The Scotsman: Hamas shells blamed for 21 deaths at rally

and

At least 15 Palestinians have been killed and scores injured in a blast during a parade by the militant Hamas group in the Gaza Strip. [...]

the ruling Palestinian Fatah faction said it held Hamas responsible.

BBC: Palestinians killed in Gaza blast

etc...etc - just google it.

Personally, I think ALL of the politicians in the area have failed their people, BOTH SIDES!

Am I wrong?
