Hey Ocelot heres a rig I threw together myself before I u2u'd you asking for your help, could you rate it because I wanna know how well I did for my first time!

$74 Motherboard: www.newegg.com...

$99 Harddrive (200GB):
www.newegg.com...

$283 Videocard (256MB):
www.newegg.com...

$59.99 Case: www.newegg.com...

$49.99 CD/DVD Burner:
www.newegg.com...

$86.99 1GB RAM: www.newegg.com...

And then I couldn't decide between these two processors:

$380.99 Athlon 64 4000+:
www.newegg.com...
$405 Athlon 64 X2 3800+:
www.newegg.com...

And the grand total for your computer is*drum roll* $1033.96 with the
4000+ and $1057.97 with the dual-core 3800+.

Shucky-darn I'm good!

Everything looks good DD. The only thing I would Change is the Motherboard. And if your friends wants to spend a little more and get the X2 then go for it.

Ya he likes the X2 better than the single cores because he wants to have top of the line everything and cutting edge performance.

Just wondering though why would you change the motherboard? Wrong chipset or what? I gotta know I just gotta!

No the Chipset is fine, go with the Nforce4 or the Nforce4 ULTRA. It's just the brand Im not too fond of. Go with MSI, ASUS, or Abit.

Also for the Hard Drive use a Serial ATA150 Harddrive instead of an old IDE one, and you're good to go.

Just wondering, what're the circumstances? I had to do this for a class, I know, wondering if it's the same deal.

Why not just get a $500 PC or something and spend some money on stuff he actually needs? Rent, Food, Bills, Porn etc.
