The death toll keeps rising, but the rain has stopped for now. Ten citizens were arrested for spreading rumors. The stock exchange reopened on Friday, after being closed on Thursday. People were also asked to stay home on Thursday.
"The death toll is 749 now, including 376 in Bombay alone," said M. Deshpande, assistant director at the control room. Officials were driving around seaside neighborhoods announcing over loudspeakers there was no truth to rumors of a tsunami, storm or a breach in a local dam.

It seems that most of the deaths are occurring to the poor and homeless. Mudslides and building collapses have caused a lot of the problem. It will be some time before there is an end to this, but the rain has stopped for now.
