The new drug, AK602 is able to keep the aids virus from entering human cells, it has been tested on over 40 aids patients with positive results. The drug itself does not lose effectiveness like other aids medications, because it affects the cells rather than the virus itself.

Current AIDS medications often lose their effectiveness after a few days due to the virus' resistance, but the AK602 reacts to human cells instead of attacking the virus, said Mitsuya, a university professor.

Well, its not a cure for aids per se, but this is very very promising, kudos (how fitting) to japan for coming up with this.
