It has now been 3 1/2 years since al-Qaeda has hit the US on its own soil. Not even a simple suicide bombing. The border is wide open, it is easy to get a counterfeit mexican id card which can be used to get a banking account and a drivers license in the United States. It seems that the administration is crying out to al-Qaeda to hit us but yet nothing happens.

I think what is left of al-Qaeda is too busy running for their lives to even think about trying anything offensive within the United States.

There has been another big capture with dozens of others rounded up and detained in the last couple of days. Article

So they're not dead are they, If they are running?

As soon as the US let's up and eases on the collar they will bite back...and they will try to bite harder.

They probably still have some sort of command and control headed by old leaders of Al-Qaeda.

I doubt Alqaeda is beat. So what there hasnt been an attack on America soil in three and a half years. It was eight years between the WTC bombing and the destruction of the WTC on 911. What actual damage have we done to an organization with little real structure. We've blown up a few shacks captured some soldiers and a few head men. The soldiers are easily replaceable we've guaranteed that with the Iraq war. Regarding the head men well they're replaceable as well thats why they invented chains of succession and command. If Al Qaeda were to kill or captue Donald Rumsfeld would the US be defeated? We have done nothing to damage their infrastructure.

The death of Alquaed is nothing more then wishful thinking. Even if we did hypothetically destroy Alqaeda what would we have accomplished other then dispersing it even further. Those who survive would only form splinter groups that would continue to harry American interests. The war on terror can no more be won with bombs then can the War on Drugs the War on Crime or the war on any other unpopular noun that catches our ire.
