interesting article by the bbc here, i recommend we all read it.
As a lad I well remember cringing when my father decided to proclaim his political attachment by sticking up a poster in our living room window.
It wasn't the political affiliation that made me wince - although we didn't share the same politics - it was the fact that he had decided to make
his opinion so public.
I also felt uneasy at the underlying conceit that advertising his views would influence others in any way.
Then again, a couple of decades ago everybody was doing it: election posters were to be seen from thousands of private dwellings up and down the land.
