We have and are, the core of the earth was reported to have stopped spinning, and the Tonga volcanic explosion is causing some very red sunsets in the southern hemisphere.

that figures finally found a place I want to live out my days and I am buying a house about 200 miles from the artic circle... so yea end of the world as we know it possible.

This could be the result of a CIR (co-rotating interaction region), which was predicted to arrive today. CIRs are transition zones between slow- and fast-moving solar wind streams. Solar wind plasma piles up in these regions, producing shock-like structures that mimick CMEs.
