Wondering if other people react the same way to whistling in advertisements or videos.

I mean when the whistling is in the background and repetitive.

Personally, it distracts the wits out of me ... can't concentrate on listening or doing anything else because the whistling has a way of monopolizing one's attention.

What says ATS ?

Cheers

It's not whistling that bugs me, it's all the extra overlays in a song. So many have siren's that I can't count the times I've had to turn the car radio off to check for emergency vehicles! It's hilly here so you won't see the lights first you'll hear them coming way before seeing them.

Some of the other backround laid into songs like bangs or rattles too.
Shut radio off, make sure that noise isn't the vehicle. Can't tell you how many times I've cussed out whoever in a studio thought mechanical noises "added texture" to a song!! (insert multiple cuss words here)
A imitation rattling heat shield seems to be one of their favorites.

As long as they don't piss while whistling, I don't care...

More like background sound in the media. Videos that show someone doing something vice speaking seem have such "effects" often.

Me so phoney-a ? Speak for yourself, GI!

I will say that whistling in songs and ads is definitely pretentious and distracting. Mostly annoying.

There are a few sounds/instruments that started to get big in the early to mid 2000's in what I call hipster music that really annoy the hell out of me, and then they moved into advertising and are still in a lot of commercials:

Whistling
Glockenspiel
Ukulele
'Millennial Whoops' ( en.wikipedia.org... )

All this attempt to be folksy/cutesy or something..

Who else has some other examples?

Whistling has its odd aspects, although the trope of someone whistling to seem innocent is something I've only seen in films or TV.

Some criminal gangs will use short, sharp whistles to signal each other. I've heard that a time or two in big cities and give those clowns wide berth.

The natives of the Canary Islands whistle loudly to communicate with people on the far side of a valley, pretty wild.
