Conspiracy on ATS forums? Is someone on staff practicing unauthorized censorship?

Just after my two posts "The war on intelligence" and "Do you remember thinking caps from school?" I could not open ATS from my own computer.

It started on Mar. 29 when the site was supposed to be down for 10-15 minutes but I have been unable to get the ATS site to open since then.

Why not check out those posts and see what someone may be trying to suppress?

A page would pop up saying it was down for maintenance and updates.

I am currently logged on another computer.

No one from ATS contacted me or gave me any kind of a warning.

Can it be someone on staff censored my posts?

I suppose there's probably a way a hacker could stop me from logging on without being affiliated with ATS. However, the connection with the planned site maintenance suggests it may be connected with ATS.

Yeah, that happened to me and I was off for a few days. I got a little worried and posted a question about it from another location/phone.

Clear cookies and cache. Hope you remember your passwords to all your other sites lol. But, it worked great. No conspiracy here, just computer junk issues.

I am no technical expert BUT I will tell you that I still use a browser that will not let me log into ATS and leads to the same errors.

I understood it has something to do with resetting your browser cache completely... (something I can't do for other reasons) but using a different browser circumvents all that grief.

Just an idea for you to try, if your inclined.

I had the same thing happen to me on my pc. I thought ATS was down for quite awhile until I realized I could get in using my phone. I think I cleared cache and cookies and it still didnt work, then one day is just started working again.

As other members have said, clear all browser cached data or, if you cannot do it, try using (if your browser has that possibility) an anonymous/incognito/private browser window. As that kind of window ignores all cached data it will (most likely) allow you to access ATS. At least that's how I had to do until I decided to clear all the saved data on my browser (Opera).

There are ways to be selective when cleaning up the browser's cache.

In Summary
Clearing Chrome’s cache and cookies is one way to fix website formatting or loading issues on your computer.
However, this approach ends up deleting the data for all websites you’ve visited on Chrome in the past. And thus, requires you to log in to every website again, and in some cases, causes you to experience slowed page loading speeds.
A better approach instead is to clear cache and cookies for that particular site that’s exhibiting formatting or loading issues.

If they are still there to be checked, then nobody is trying to suppress them.

Do you remember thinking caps from school? You might want to read this.

The war on intelligence. Could be the most important thing you ever read.

[snipped] But that is it. What? We have ways to monitor staff? Absolutely.

It's a cache/cookie issue on your browser. Clear that out and the issue should resolve. You can test whether it's a site issue or a browser issue by opening the site on a private window tab. If you get the same results then it's a site issue, if it clears it up then it's stuck cookies on your browser. We added a CDN to the site which sped it up quite a lot but at the same time caused unforeseen issues like this for some members (including myself). My Google Chrome was stuck even after clearing the cache and I had to uninstall and reinstall it completely. But I would recommend using Brave Browser. It's just like Chrome except much more secure and doesn't track/report back to Google like Chrome does.

You can clear cookies for a single website and you can uncheck "clear passwords" too, just FYI. It depends on what browser you are using but you can search the name of your browser and "how to to clear cookies for a single website".

Here are the steps for chrome: support.google.com...

I first tried that selective clearing of data but it didn't work.
At least on Opera.

It's strange it won't work, although, Opera is a slightly different beast. I used to use it prior to 2016, before it got sold to the Chinese. Its claim to be the fastest browser of its time was due to it using it's own proxy servers, so pages weren't loading directly from the source, but from Opera's server cache... at least that's how I understood it to work.

The browser has evolved and claims to be very secure, with built in VPN and Crypto Wallet. However, I don't trust it.

Here's a snippet from a good review... www.wizcase.com...

Who Owns Opera?
You might be considering using Opera Reborn 3 to avoid your data being intercepted by the NSA or scooped up by your network carrier as part of the Prism Program.

But there’s little point redirecting your connection through a third party unless it’s one that you can trust.

Opera started life as a Norwegian company, with its VPN running through a Canadian subsidiary named SurfEasy. Opera decided in 2018 to start using its own data centers for its VPN.

If you’re very privacy-conscious, you may have concerns about your data being handled by a company based in either Norway or Canada. Both countries are part of the “Nine Eyes” intelligence-sharing program.
Perhaps even more alarming is the news that parts Opera (including its browser) were recently acquired by a Chinese consortium.

None of this necessarily means that your data is not secure when using Opera Reborn 3. But the location of data centers and the obligations on service providers under national law are factors that many people do consider when choosing a VPN

And more tech details from GitHub about how the proxy works... gist.github.com...

This Opera "VPN" is just a preconfigured HTTP/S proxy protecting just the traffic between Opera and the proxy, nothing else. It's not a VPN.

Just my 2 cents... perhaps my disdain is unwarranted, more of a gut feeling. In any case, it's a browser I'm not allowed to install on my Gov. work computers.

I used Opera and the fix for me was Google searching the ATS website then clicking on the links that came up. That worked so I then deleted the old ATS icon off my home page and created a new one from the links that worked.

I also thought it was strange, it should have worked, but as I don't have any thing I must keep on any browser I cleared everything.
And yes, it's slightly different, although based on the same base (Chromium) as Chrome or Edge.

I used to use it prior to 2016, before it got sold to the Chinese. Its claim to be the fastest browser of its time was due to it using it's own proxy servers, so pages weren't loading directly from the source, but from Opera's server cache... at least that's how I understood it to work.

The old Opera used its own engine, now its Chromium based, but some things still work as they did on the old browser, and that's why I like it.
And no, the speed was not from their server cache, I never used and it was faster than the other browsers.

The browser has evolved and claims to be very secure, with built in VPN and Crypto Wallet. However, I don't trust it.

I trust it as much as I trust any other browser because I don't use them to do any really important stuff.

This Opera "VPN" is just a preconfigured HTTP/S proxy protecting just the traffic between Opera and the proxy, nothing else. It's not a VPN.

I only use their "VPN" when sites block access from Europe.

Just my 2 cents... perhaps my disdain is unwarranted, more of a gut feeling. In any case, it's a browser I'm not allowed to install on my Gov. work computers.

I don't have any problem trusting Chinese browsers any more than I have problems trusting US browsers, and besides Opera I also use Maxthon, as I use different browsers for different things.

PS: I also use Edge, Chrome and Firefox.

PPS: regarding speed, one thing I have noticed is that an InPrivate Edge window is much faster than a normal Edge window.
