Mudpit Going Away

I noticed a thread yesterday that has been randomly closed about shutting down the Mudpit forum. I just want to formally request my account be disabled so I’m not counted as an active ATS user anymore. There is no point in me being here any longer since that is the forum I come to ATS for. I know you will reply with, you can just log out and not post, but I can also violate the rules here repeatedly to get banned so just asking nicely first. I’ll check back on what my next steps are.

Like what? The mud pit being shut down because moderators are mad about having to moderate? They could easily pass the torch, but instead would rather whine about it on ATS instead of doing the job they volunteered for. I’m asking for a simple request, make a clarification on the mudpit thing or remove my account.

This site is a bit esoteric and not for everyone. It didn't even used to be about politics really at all. I don't think they delete all of anyone's posts or disable accounts like that. I have seen a couple people have meltdowns about that before.

It looks like you're not alone. After reviewing the entire thread again about the Mud Pit being on hold, it looks like 4 other people ended up closing their accounts over this issue or/and because of the way the thread was being handled itself.

Oh I’m sure. Now imagine the amount of traffic that will leave the site from people who don’t even post. And I agree the way that thread was handled was an absolute joke. Looked like a bunch of admins and mods teamed up against a few posters that disagreed with them from my perspective.

The Mud Pit is what brings a lot of people to ATS. It’s a place to vent or read about the ridiculous stuff going on in our society. Removing the Mud Pit is the equivalent of removing ATS’s relevance to a lot of people.

I agree with what you're saying about many people coming here for the Mud Pit forum. And even if the handlers weren't teaming up against posters they disagreed with, they certainly were throwing down the hammer on T&C violations while they committed their own, which was an embarrassment to the site.

I agree with you that they shouldn’t take the Mud Pit away.
No matter what side you are on, politics have become pretty divisive.
If anything, the Mud Pit should be a place where almost anything goes with the exception of threats.
Anything but polite debate outside the Mud Pit should be dealt with accordingly but the Mud Pit should be there to blow off the steam from the debacle that has become American politics since Trump exposed everyone.

See that’s the difference. You’re free to stay away from the mudpit. Can’t visit the mudpit if it’s removed though. I know, pretty difficult concept for many to get.

The MP is the most popular forum and consistently represents the top threads by far.
I'm sure you won't be the last to leave if it goes away or gets neutered.

Before that, people were forced to have actual discussions, provide evidence, and at least try to get along.
Half of all mud pit forums are snark, or people talking trash. You have to scroll a whole page to find one post with substance sometimes.

Perhaps you missed one of Darko's last comments in that thread. He mentioned that it would remain, but be less-in-your-face... you have to find it in the forum index page.

Mudpit is there and open right now. Enjoy it.

Whole thread was discussing an option.

There is and always has been less moderation inside the Mudpit. That was the purpose.

The problem being people not being respectful outside the Mudpit.

So let’s say you wanted to quit smoking. Do you…

Keep smoking because it will magically stop if you wish hard enough.

Only smoke while drinking coffee, driving, after meals, in the bar…

Actively not buy nor smoke cigarettes.

All three could work. And there have been various alternatives suggested including a few that seems like going the nicotine patch route.

But an open thread to the membership on opinions was a good thing. Nothing has happened yet, because there doesn’t seem to be a decision made as yet. But if you think ATS is a single forum? I don’t know what to tell you. Because there are roughly 20+ forums that have came and gone over the years off the top of my head. And probably closer to 30 or more in the past 20 years. Dead topics. Several were replaced by combined forums. And some were hosted forums and the host is no longer attached.

Who knows, if you look around you might find the comic book forum and enjoy that. Or writing short stories. Or video game discussion. There is even like 15 other political forums, just you have to post with civility and decorum within them…or you can find out how easy moderating the boards are.

I don’t know why people felt the need to ridicule him the way they did in his thread, it’s uncalled for.

I am not interested in that type of content, so I bypassed the thread after reading the title.
The same way people can bypass threads in the Mud Pit if they do not care for it.
