Are the natives friendly?

Hi ATS,

My name is ##### but here I'll be known as 'All An Illusion' ... I don't very often like to break cover and leave any mark on the web because unless you have a personal friend working for a 3 letter agency the web simply doesn't forget the marks you make.

I never really trusted the state / government / authorities but I admit that I was ignorant to the depths of depravity that they strive to achieve, that was until a few years ago when my eldest son began giving me licks of the Red Pill starting with 9/11 info, something that I watched occur live when he was only 4 years old ... At first I ridiculed much of what he said but eventually (with much patience on his part) I began to learn of how dark that event really was ... and even in recent days more details about the truth of what happened continue to emerge.

The pinned post Welcome to ATS, it's time to introduce yourself assumes that I am my own favourite topic but this is far from the truth, I'm fiercly private and generally shy around strangers but here's some background on me to help when sorting the wheat from the chaff:

• I'm over 50 - But only a little
  
• I work in IT as a specialist programmer and DBA
  
• The type of IT system I work with was created before I was born
  
• I started coding when I was 10 - ZX80/81 & BBC Micro
  
• I'm British
  
• But I live in Ireland (Republic not NI)
  
• I have 4 sons aged between 14 and 27
  
• I have been widowed and a single parent for over a decade
  
• I drink and smoke but no longer screw
  

If you actually know me then the above will be enough to confirm who I am to you ... Just don't say it out load here please.

When I write, I tend to write as if I were speaking and try to make good use of punctuation; paragraphs, quotation marks and my personal favourite ellipses (...), which I sprinkle in liberally as if it were a breath in the middle of a long sentence or series of linked sentences ... I hope my writing style makes for an easier reading experience ... But I accept that I am fallable and will make mistakes periodically.

I'm not a grammer Nazi, but I am a proponent of making good use of the English language and people who say "pacifically" when they mean "specifically" make my blood boil - It's pure laziness (or worse )

I found ATS, having never heard of it before, when looking for information about a 'rumour' and it led me to here: The First Post I Read on ATS ... I poked and lurked and liked what I saw (well some of it anyway)

Having lurked in the shadows for a few months reading all your titbits I finally gave in and signed up just so I could add my own attempt at context to this thread on Male Pregnancy. I'm not sure if it was just missed by most (it gets covered again 4 pages later) or if it just wasn't well received ... Maybe if you're reading this and have a moment you'd be so kind as to provide some feedback.

I don't know how long I'll last on here ... some parts seem a little 'clique-ish' at times ... I guess I just need to hang in there and be brave.

In the off chance that this is read by the mods I'd like to mention the link to the video introduction is broken as is the link to new topics, it seems they went away with the site upgrade the other week.

If anyone who has read this far can point me at a thread that explains the Karma, Flags, Trophies and stuff I'd be keen to understand more about them (TIA).

Personally, I think most things in life are fairly black and white but there's always a little grey lurking in the details ... What do you say

No, never been a member here before, just a lurker for the last few months.

The details I gave are enough for the select few who know me in real life to let me know they are here too if they see through the clues ... I'm sure at least some of them are also Conspiracy Theorists but it's not something you bring up on company web chat or meetings.

a fellow nerd. Except you went full nerd and do code. I'm a hardware guy. Likely close in age, raised 3 kids, currently raising a grandkid, been married over 30 years.

This is an amazing place and some of the best is in older threads. We have had the best minds on the planet pass through here. (they all left when it got wonky and now it's just us)

It's addictive, so pace yourself. And if you need help, ask. There are some super nice people here, and one jerk. Watch out for him.
