I once got my check cashed at the drive up . The nice lady put the envelope in the drawer and I took it out and pulled up to verify the amount . There was an extra $20 dollar bill in there . I then went around and got back in line. I told the teller what had happened , and I was returning the extra . The teller thought about it , then called someone else to the window . "You can't do that here, you have to go into the bank."
Long story short , 2 hours to return that $20 .

Absolute true story .
Should have kept it at that point. Your time is worth something to. You shouldn't pay for THEIR mistake ! I know it was a while ago , but still

I am not that type of person .
There is no way in hell I would stand in line for 2 hours for a bank error, but that's just me. I would have dropped it at a busy teller and walked out

But , I wasn't in line long at all . Mostly the time was used by filling out paperwork , folks "interviewing" me , etc.
I have always considered that time in my life as humorous and thought provoking .

And quite eye-opening.
From my recent bank experiences, I can't help but wonder why the employees aren't helping me -
If they don't know how to complete the online transactions with these 401k companies, how on earth am I supposed to know??

Banking is different now.
What was supposed to happen in 2008 just happened on January 1, 2023.
All banks must be basel3 compliant.

Consider the last 15 years as a pause to that event not another event "like" 2008.

Banks now are going through stress tests in order to comply with having 10% schedule 1 assets v money loaned out.
I suspect your 401k's are considered unsecured liabilities and nobody wants to accept it as it is considered debt and not an asset.
Your money is not your money
All money you put in banks are their money.

I have the feeling that these 401k companies will do anything possible to stop you getting your hands on your own money - nothing can convince me otherwise

5)
It's not that, it just sounds like your facing a few problems that make it tough to complete it. I'm suprised the 401k company won't submit a check. That's a pain! 3
3)
Some retirement plans can restrict certain funds (or all of it) if your still employed and bellow age 59.5 That's due to the type of plan the employer set up.

Definietly sounds like your facing a lot of rules that make it tough to do the transfer. That sucks. Employees are just following procedure. Sometimes you'll get employees that don't really care or know what they're doing. Probably better to see if you can set up an appointment with a manger or assistant manager.

Banks and crediit unions often don't pay tellers or whatever their title is much money. And offer little incentives to encourage people to move their money over. A good employee WILL care, but it's the managers whose jobs are to get money into the financial institution. Better to talk to them if the teller isn't helpful.

Apologies if my response wasn't very informative. Sometimes the key is just finding the right person to talk to.

So I was a transfer agent and didn't manage 401ks, but you should look into getting a financial advisor. Money markets are good. Get a smart one and build your assets. If you have questions about companies of stock, I know about over 5,000 of them that I did bookkeeping for. I'm also an ADR specialist and a CST/microcap specialist as well. So ask away. I was told by many shareowners to invest in BP, for one example, due to the stability and good dividends from that ADR.

LOL - I remember my Mum was given $20 too much from the teller at the bank. She walked back in and was given the third degree by the teller and the manager there, and they acted extremely angry with her.
She was so upset and said, never again!

EXACT same thing happened to me at a bank I had been a customer at for years. The teller got mad at me! And it wasn't like I announced it or made a scene. I had to beg them to take their erroneous money back but no more. After that I also decided never again. It hasn't happened since but if I get any extra money, I'll stash it for a month and if they don't come after it, it's mine!

We actually did get a financial advisor at the bank, and made $1,000 on our account in the last few weeks, surprisingly.
Of course the numbers change daily, and now this war in the mideast may affect things negatively.
Thank you for the offer!
