Unless he acquired it in some other means that directly from the military. I just don't know how any of this makes sense just yet.
a reply to: JinMI

Maybe he was tasked with shredding documents
and couldn't resist the temptation to read a few.
Tasked , I say , not in charge...........
He has a pretty low rank, but still could have some
kind of security clearance.

Was it Discord they were originally leaked to?
Because I'm curious, because I know I read it on some other thread here, that they were originally leaked over 6 months ago? But apparently they weren't getting a lot of attention.
Then they were moved to some gaming sites?

The whole thing seems fishy.

I thought I heard the same thing, he put it on the members-only board and somebody else released them onto a public board

I heard a portion of the briefing on the news. It was stated that ANYONE with a clearance knew the protocols, signed an NDA and if anything was breached, it was on purpose and a crime. So they are serious about hanging this kid. But then they went to rail about need to know, and access is limited to anyone who doesn't need to know. So that beggs the question, did this kid need to know any of this? And did he fully grasp what posting classified documents on the internet meant with regard to his obligations and clearance?

This might be just what it looks like, but it sure doesn't smell right.

that does make the Biden documents from the SCIF a bit of a bigger deal, does it not?

Even still, what sort of chain of command would bring these sensitive documents to the lap of a state National Guardsman?

ETA:

Chain of custody, more specifically.

I came here as soon as I could...because I wanted to give my perspective on this. I have not read anyone else's posts yet. Working in similar environment, I Know how easy this could have happened. I have read in other places, they think he was set up. But I believe he probably and more than likely did what he is being accused of. This is not me giving my opinion on whether he is right or wrong in what he did. I do not even know the details of what was leaked.

This kid worked in an intelligence unit. He had a TS/SCI clearance more than likely and had access to the INTRAnet which afforded him access to all kinds of stuff - things he may never even worked on or needed to have access to....he could access. It really is that easy once you have the clearance. When you have a TS/SCI and are given access to classified areas - you have to swipe in at least once every 2 weeks or you lose your access. He may or may not work in an actual classified area on all of his shifts. Not everyone with a TS or TS/SCI does. Often there are classified rooms with classified computers.
You would think that on military bases or even at defense contractors, security is uber high. Sure, it may be at the gate. But once you are at work and you have established yourself there, the complacency amongst coworkers is high. Nobody really eyeballs anyone unless you are some weirdo or POS. Computers are often outdated, so some, you can still stick in USB sticks. Others, you can stick in CDs and yes, burn to them. You can also print out documents. If they are classified, all you have to do is cut off the classified text. When you leave and have items on you....they are not looking at the material - they are looking for classified markings. Your pockets are not searched.

You would think after Snowden, things would have changed. Nope. The complacency in our intel and military community is ridiculous and gets worse, not better. Cyber Security is just as bad. But don't tell anyone that I told you that. Oh wait, that is not really a secret...this is why they are begging for personnel. Begging.

It takes years and about 5 zillion people for the government to make a decision on anything - and usually a team is formed to decide on making a team to create a team on deciding how to make a decision on deciding about something or if it should be decided on.
Yeah, this is the insanity of all levels of our government. You can see it on the lowest level such as getting streets paved in your town all the way up to POTUS level #.

So, I do not know if the theory of this young man being set up is being talked about here - yet. But based on my experience and knowledge, I believe he did what he did and with EASE.

Now, I will go read what yall have said.

National Air "GUARD".

So you/they really want me to believe a guardsman had access to obtain this kind of secrecy?

I have SO many questions!

But that's more for criminals chatting on certain online games. Since everybody in the secret community would know it's all recorded and stored for two years or so.
So no, I doubt the guy was in it for anything more than feeling important.

You can't even make me believe that a 21 year old guardsman had anything close to the kind of access it would have taken to get hands on this kind of intelligence. This isn't some hacking issue. This kid 'supposedly' would have had to have top secret access to the kind of information that was available.

No way this is possible unless our military is a total joke. Still, can't convince me this is real. Something bigger is missing here.

That is some valuable input. Appreciated.

If our intelligence is that lax, then we deserve the blowback.

Even more telling is the MSM going through many varying series of hoops to find the leaker while avoiding the leaks.

Um, some vets help be out here? The pewpew ones, not the woof woof ones.

How does a state National Guard member come across such sensitive information?

He worked for an intel unit. More than likely with a TS/SCI
National Guard members are not janitors. They even flies jets! *gasp*
I am not sure why someone would think that NG are some low level workers?

*Adding. If he had the clearance, he would have had access to the INTRAnet. Not internet. INTRA where all the classified docs are stored to be access from all over the country.

The problem is the age not that he's from the National Guard.
And that he had so no clue what to do with it he showed it 'his friends' on Discord.

Interesting ...

I have no clue but I do find it interesting as hell.

To knowingly take classified docs and put them on a gaming board for "board cred" is where I have more questions.

Compartmentalization. Plausible deniability.

It's not that I think the NG are low level workers, especially as in applies to intelligence.

I think that the Mass. state NG having sensitive information on the happenings in Ukraine would be outside their 'need to know.'

He was super slopy and wanted to be the next Snowden.
While our govt/intel have not learned.....the up and coming spies and leakers have not either.
Dude used the same screenname around the net. Took pictures w/ his home interior in them.

He was a wannabe and now he will hate his life.

Its not the "Mass NG" having it. Its the fact that people with certain levels of clearance can access the INTRAnet where classified docs are stored and accessible from any classified computer in any state.

Fair enough.

Something I hadn't considered before your explanation.

And still, thats one hell of an exploitable weakness.

The age is not a problem. You can have a TSI/SCI at that age. He is an adult.
He was probably a Snowden fanboi.

Sure is. The plethora of issues w/in our military/gov/intel community is alarming, to say the least. The things I have witnessed myself. The stories I know.
How more things are not leaked is beyond me. Has to be because of honorable people, I assume. Not because it is hard to do.

No, most certainly not a Snowden.
Snowden knew exactly what he was doing.
This one obviously totally didn't.
