I've had similar result online.

I've looked at Google Images for alter ideas, looking around for some inspiring pentacle artwork and the majority of images I find are just....DARK.

They're commercially mass produced and reek of negative energy.

I've only found one pentacle pendant I am fond of, and she's in my wish list for the day and time I feel I have the right to wear her.

There is just as much variety in the Magickal Community as there are Christian Sects.

It just concerns me that so much of what I see seems dead and dark, uninspired and sinister.

I consider it a distressing sign of the times.

A black and burgundy altar looks great on social media to many. It really defines the desired persona. Sinister virtue signaling sort of. Look at my rebellion against white light.

Occult altars are largely defined by a carnie's book. The ones in google images are 85% based on the satanic altar from The Satanic Bible. The black/white candles, sigils, skulls, daggers, chalice, bells, and all. There's even a materials list so everyone can do it the same way.

More a sign of people and their tendency for meme propagation.

Thanks for the heads up.

I occassionaly find a nice alter that speaks to me, flowers, figurines, handmade gifts and so forth.

I mean, there's a time and place for skulls but it is a bit overwheming for me for the most part.

I went through a phase like that. And there are a few books that I use from my collection, but not many anymore.

Then one day, I just said to myself, what do I like? What represents " Diety" to me?
What colors make me happy?

I spend more time in the woods, and nature, finding things I use every day.

The right way, is what feels right to you.

I joined this conversation late, so much so, that I can't really address the full multi-page thread.

But I have wondered about our (meaning humankind) lengthy exposure to 'alternate' entities. I put quotes around the word alternate because I want to make sure you understand that it is only a matter of a word choice, not implying anything at all about the subject.

From the start, humans have recognized and accepted into our reality that such things as non-human encounters do indeed happen. Along with those that experience them themselves, there are those that believe it sincerely, and even those who believe, but have their own explanations for what these entities are. Then there are those who don't believe... some thinking it delusional (whether organic or not,) others that it is an impossibility. All told, most believe, and at least anecdotally accept the idea.

But what are they? Are they the demons of which you speak? And is the idea of demons just a left-over from our rich history with this aspect of the human condition? I certainly don't know.

The real question for me has always been "Why?" Why would they even be here, why bother dealing with us at all, when we mostly are oblivious to them? Is there some thrill, or nourishment for them in our interactions? Clearly they can manifest themselves -in some perceptual way that relates to us... so why not just stick around... what are we gonna do about it? What part of their 'cooperation' involves the 'quid' to their 'pro quo?' It doesn't mean it must be a bad thing... but if it is not, why the mystery?

These are not challenges to you, or what you say... only questions that haunt me in this idea of entities with which we can interact... but only under 'special' conditions.
