All Govts lie to us. Those of us who are much, muuch older than 20 are generally more than capable of sorting the wheat from the chaff.

Then what are you criticizing me about?

Look, whippersnapper.... I'm old enough to remember the Gulf War of 1991. Only years later did we find out that our government told the most outrageous lies to drum up support for the war. There were hysterical reports on TV about how the evil Iraqis were cutting off Kuwaiti women's breasts, and going into hospitals and killing newborn babies. Turns out it was pure 100% fiction. The claimed atrocities were, literally, made up whole cloth by the Kuwaiti leaders, and repeated uncritically by the media.

That's exactly what Ukraine claimed Russians were doing, and our media repeated it without question...

Maybe you're talking about some other version of the leaked numbers. I know there was at least two. But the lower version I saw was ludicrously low. Only 43 dead Russian soldiers per day.

You must live in Chicago. 43 people killed every day is "ludicrously low"?

Fort Bragg Air National Guardsman is "The Leaker".

www.wsj.com...

I guess they weren't so "sensitive" after all. Only TOP BRASS has access to the really Top Secret stuff...right?

Certainly I'm not the only one who is skeptical that somebody from the Air National Guard would have access to the kind of high-level documents that were leaked.

No. Properly done, access is granted to those with the requisite clearance AND the need to know. Rank is not a factor.

Cheers

I would tend to agree, except that the intel community has always granted itself special privileges. A lot of the worst security scandals were brought about by IC personnel.

Cheers

When I performed Special Navy Courier runs, I had to occasionally take a special package out to the Captain of a ship and give it to him. He took it into a special compartment to look at the the contents. I had "Top Secret Cozy Cattail" clearance and still couldn't know what was in the special packages.

It's too bad the Supreme Court didn't have the desire to find their Roe-V-Wade leaker. Only 32 possible individuals, for God's sake.

Don't think it's been posted yet; the document leaker is 21 year old Jack Teixeira. An arrest hasn't been made yet, but is said to be imminent.

Yeah lol, it'd be about one guy per 16 miles. You're joking but probably more people in Chicago for real.

Looks like whoever leaked the supposed documents doesn't want further escalation which could lead into a nuclear war.

Might be turning into the next Snowden

The death/murder rate is low when you have the media not focusing on the shootings, crime spree from Chicago.

the usa appears to be copying Britain's 60s moments.. will we see an American version of "tinker tailor soldier spy" or indeed when it comes to Trump "spy catcher" its hard not to see the parallels..

the uk and us have always been leaky sieves as they have too many factions trying to get their foot in the door or keep control..

They are saying this Jack Teixeira guy is 21 and a member of the intelligence wing of the Massachusetts Air National Guard.
He can't be that high up in rank at such a young age-so how did he get clearance to see so much classified info?
A lot of the info like the US spying on friendly countries, and even the ukraine info doesn't even seem to be "needed to know"by the national guard anyhow,as they are a domestic force.
Isn't classfied info supposed to be compartmentalized for only those who need to know?
It should be for security reasons, but not in this case by the looks of it.

to be honest the spin we get now is weak as p*ss water.. zero effort is made to create believable scapegoats.

I'll bet there will be debate about allowing such top secret materials to people so young next.

If I may, he is 21 years old and cleared to "handle" classified information.... not SEE it, let alone "pass it around." He is 'cleared' to do with classified information as he is instructed...,

His clearance should mean he is not associated with any know hostile intentions toward the nation... clearance means not likely to be manipulated due to secret vice, not prone to criminal activity, not likely to be antagonistic to his country... it should mean he at least reasonably dedicated to protect and abide by the oaths he took to serve in the protection of the Constitution...

That is what the 'clearance' is supposed to assure to the people trusting him....

I had a higher clearance than he did and I was younger than him...

It's not about age, color, religion, favorite team, color, or sport...who is his daddy, what rank he is, is he a "nice" guy, or handsome, or fulfilling of a virtue quota... it's not about the dumb crap we always seem to focus on... it's about making trust 'reasonable'... its about being conscientious, responsible, and a trustworthy friend to the honorable service of responsibility to the country.

Also, these alleged plans in the hands of the National Guardsmen (why, I'll never understand) raise serious questions... it further adds fuel to the idea that this was a 'plant.' National Guard are NOT part of national strategic war planning... they serve the governors of their individual state.

While true, Nat'l Guard also can deploy for days, weeks, months at a time to backfill or for duties that can't be covered by active duty troops.

Remember, recruitment is down, waaaay down.
