UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres says water, "humanity's lifeblood", is being drained by "unsustainable water use, pollution and unchecked global warming".

The report, published by UN Water and Unesco, warns that "scarcity is becoming endemic" because of overconsumption and pollution, while global warming will increase seasonal water shortages in both areas with abundant water and those already strained.

"If we don't address it, there definitely will be a global crisis," he said.

climate change, pollution, development, etc etc.

I don't know. there's so much alarmist / environmental stuff in the media its hard to take it serious anymore.
I don't doubt people in some places are struggling.
we in the Eastern part of the USA are blessed with plenty of fresh water. It's hard for me to comprehend not having it.

anyone with knowledge of this issue?

IMO, the crunch is water shortages in heavily populated countries that are not wealthy. That will prompt migration of peoples beyond anything we've yet seen.

I doubt though, that human intervention will alter the climate patterns.

Cheers

Well I guess I feel real sorry for the beer companies and soda companies.

Kinda related. The endless amount of water dumped on subsidized corn and soybean crops that’s then made into ethanol as a filler for gasoline, not for food.

As a lifelong resident of the Great Lakes I'm not very concerned.

My woke grandkids come over to visit, from Park Slope in Brooklyn. They love to correct things this old, ignorant, country bumkin does (4 and 6 yrs old).
Grandpa, you shouldn't run the water full force like that! Grandpa, turn off the water while your brushing.
I just tap them on their little heads and smile, as I wonder what went wrong with their mother. I blame Harvard.

They are super aware of diversity, equity and inclusion while always being sure to give their current pronouns...

You should acquaint yourself with "The History of New Sweden" by Israel Acrelius. Besides, there's plenty of thievery from the great lakes so I wouldn't worry too much.

It's certainly a growing concern in the UK - we're starting to see warnings to reduce water use every year now, sometimes even in traditionally wet areas like the Scottish Highlands.

Only going to get worse as population and general water consumption increases whilst rainfall becomes less predictable and more erratic.

We failed to heed the warnings of the 80s and 90s and yet even now, as those predictions prove true, we still refuse to listen.

1. Close the God-damned border. We are NOT responsible for their unchecked overpopulation in their hellhole countries. THEY are. Force them to assume their own responsibilities.
2. The UN seems unaware of the water cycle and that 3/4 of the Earth' s surface is covered with water
3. Yes, in some cases that requires wells and desalination plants, which the Gulf states, for example, have no problem building and operating, given that they are not infested by ignorant narcissistic eco-tards that interfere with building water plants

We don't have water shortages
We have the knowledge and technology

The real problem is we have severe excesses of stupid like Greta & Co...

Maybe running out of water won't be a problem, but pollution IS a serious problem that pretty much gets ignored for future generations to worry about.

Microplastics; yum!

The only problem we have in the UK is industrial pollution. There are not many places in the UK that you can go without falling into a watercourse within 5 miles. In reality you should be able to bend down and have a drink from said watercourse. BUT you can't because the very vast majority are polluted. Reason, has it never struck you in the face just why are sewage treatment plants are next to watercourse?

As an aside, why don't masses of people live in deserts? And I don't mean nomadic people. Answer:- cos there's no water. It amazes me the begging adverts that come on the TV about little umbongo having to walk miles to get fresh water. Send him money to help. NO, tell the idiot to move his home to the water and save the walk.

Just another aside for you, there is just as much water in the World as there was thousands of years ago so there will be o water shortage, only a water shortage where you want it to be. Oh, by the way STOP NESTLE BUYING ALL THE WATER RIGHTS UP.

I can report it's largely a regional thing. In Texas for example, East Texas and Southeast Texas, (Houston) are basically a swamp; too much water; too much rain. The Texas Hill Country on the other hand, arid and subject to 5~7 year droughts every 5 years or so. Water is definitely a concern in that region.

You really think all the concentration in the 80's and 90's wasn't just a set up for future campaigns to throw money at invisible and made up problems? Capitan Planet and Al Gore were soooo concerned with the "hole in the ozone layer" and when it disappeared as mysteriously (and might I add NATURALLY) all that talk shifted to "climate change" the next B.S fear porn our "elected" "leaders" milk our paychecks for. It was all part of social programing for the next generation of suckers to fall for.

Please do not continue to fall for this dribble and see the patterns our governments are replaying over and over to no end.

They are currently de-populating the Earth by millions with Covid and its Vaxx, the populations of the world are now shrinking not increasing.

Time to wake up

Polution created by growing plants in high quantity that have a short shelf life and chemicals used to increase the shelf life of these goods causes a lot of problems with the environment and use lots of water to grow.

Cows that just eat natural grass and fertilize the fields with their organic poop and pee do not hurt the environment much. They grow slower, but the meat is great...they go get water from the watering stations when they are thirsty. so we should start eating more naturally raised cows. I know someone who has twenty some cows and we buy a half. They just have a well on the property and say that the cows do not drink that much water. They do supplement some organic minerals but those are not hard on the environment. The big factor is that the meat is a little tougher...no corn...because all they eat is grass and hay...and it takes four to five months more before they are ready to butcher.

I prefer this kind of beef, it tastes much better and you get satisfied with less so overall it is about the same since I eat half of what I eat from a store bought piece of meat...it fills you up with less since it has more essential nutrients we evolved with. Plus, their cows rarely get sick and never need to get antiboitics anymore....they are healthy and run around in the fields all over.

The system we have created is flawed and bad for the environment...this is more important to fix that than to worry about Carbon. Corn and soy for animal food is hard on the environment because of the more chemicals allowed in animal food than human food.

There are better ways to fix things than torture the people and lie to them about things.

Well yeah, obviously tens of thousands of scientists have been involved for decades in setting it all up

Meanwhile, the question is: what lies are we being told today that are just a set up in order to raise taxes or reduce population or get guns banned in 2085?

pure spring water, taken from the tap, filtered then some minerals added for taste, and some of them claim health benefits
and sold to you at twice what it would cost from your local public water system.

hard to believe people believe it's is all natural straight from the spring.

still far to much here in southern england.. the aquifers have still not fully discharged the excess from 2014 even weith the so called droughts this year, but it usually takes 2 decades to fully discharge the excess, this year it was as bad as 2014 so we'll be stuck with ground flood risks now until 2044. though flood re (insurance started in 2016 in response to the 2014 floods) runs out in 2041..

in the local town we had eels swimming along the high (main) street.. so i'll be hoping for some very sunny/dry summers for the next decade to even out the excess water..

Several years ago there was an exchange of primary school visits between Portugal and Morocco. We are neighbouring countries, as we have only a few kilometres of water between us.

There was one child that, when the teachers looked for him/her, would never find, but after the first occasions they knew where to look: in the bathroom or in the kitchen, marvelled with how easy it was to have running water just by turning the tap handle.

What we, in "western" countries, find normal, is a luxury in a large part of the world, and good drinkable water is, unfortunately, one of those.
