The AFP on Twitter is reporting that talks between Xi and Putin are having an effect. Talks of a cease fire and an invite to Zelensky

Meanwhile, the Japanese PM is also on the way to Ukraine.

Japanese PM to Ukraine

Zelensky invites China

Interesting turn of events.

I'm curious to what it looks like on a world stage when peace is negotiated between eastern nations while the west is pushing for more war.

From your link:

"Japan PM Kishida will meet Ukraine President Zelensky in Kyiv to "convey respect for the courage and perseverance of the Ukrainian people" and emphasise the "unwavering support for Ukraine of Japan and the G7": Japan's foreign ministry"

When did peace become such an ugly word?

Lets hope Russia agrees to withdraw from Eastern Ukraine, and return Crimea.

Well if you want to put it all in here, that's fine.

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida is en route to Ukraine for a surprise visit after pressure to travel there as this year's host of the Group of Seven summit

The reality is if that your neighbor broke into your house you would kill them or pummel them until they left. Not wait for your neighbor and some dude in a completely different neighborhood to figure out what was best for you.

Or I could be wrong.

Russia isn't our neighbor.

Ukraine isn't in our neighborhood association.

Cool story.

Why isn't the US in the ICC?

We're discussing the premise of your Original Post which was Putin and Xi discussing peace for Ukraine.

But, to your point, if your neighbor broke into your house and the best gun shop around was going to get you some ammo, you'd take it.

Or maybe you wouldn't. Still waiting on how you would handle it.

Yes, he does not seem to be there to negotiate a peace as you seem to claim.

That's my only point.

Yea, I'm not great with analogies.

Peace for Ukraine, peace for Russia.

Peace for the plebs dying on both sides.

In who's shoes?

Ukraines? Not be a tool for the east or west.
Russia? Not go back on agreements and treaties previously made.
The West? Same as Russia.

So you're saying Russia should not have violated the Budapest Memorandum? Now that they did, what do you do?

Unlikely, but we can certainly hope.

From a realistic perspective, the first course of action would be to secure a lasting ceasefire. This will only be achieved by a number of concessions. Ukraine will need to be able to export its agri product and have Russian forces move back to some point in eastern Ukraine that doesnt threaten Ukraines access to the sea.
