Holy crap! The Senate actually did something both useful & good!!!

Daylight Savings Time could be all year in Michigan under bill passed by US Senate

The Senate unanimously passed the Sunshine Protection Act, which, if approved by the House and signed by the president, would make Daylight SavingT time permanent. So, in November 2023, Daylight Savings Time would be the new Standard Time.

"Pardon the pun, but this is an idea whose time has come," Reuters reported Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., who introduced the proposal, said. "I know this is not the most important issue confronting America, but it's one of those issues where there's a lot of agreement."

Everybody hates changing their clocks twice a year -- I've literally never met anybody who doesn't. Not only is it inconvenient, but it messes up our natural body rhythms for about a week after each change. Statistics prove that auto accidents and heart attacks spike right after time changes.

Hopefully the House can take a break from the Biden investigations long enough to pass this, and then we can toss this terrible idea into the dumpster of history.

so how about not changing it at all?

What is accomplished by going to permanent day light savings time?

Talk about useless legislation...

It'll still mean that we can stop effing around with our clocks. That's a solid win in my book.

Daylight Savings may turn out to be the only savings any of us have left.

it's proven that more Heart attacks and strokes happen within a few days of the time change .

What does it save or change? Nothing but messing us up.

The natives I met growing around here had a saying I loved:

Only the white man will cut a foot of blanket off the top of the blanket and sew it to the bottom, to make the blanket longer.

It needs to be kept on Daylight Savings permanently.
Longer sunlight in the afternoon, summer and winter.
I couldn’t deal with it getting dark at 7-7:30PM in the summertime if it stayed on Standard time permanently.
It will be darker longer in the mornings but who cares?
I really wish they would have done this years ago when I was a mail carrier for the USPS, winter time sucked when it got dark at 4:45PM and you had to walk in the dark delivering the mail until 6 or 7.
Very few people put their outside lights on that early.

You must be early to bed, early to rise.
I love it staying light out later in the summer, we are always doing something in the backyard.
It would really screw me up if it got dark at 7 in the summer.

But it wouldn't...it would be 8-8:30.
And anyway, too many bugs in the evening/night.

My circadian clock really does not like the BS clock changes. It's not about sleep so much as being able to wind down.

Around here you still have twilight at 10pm for part of the summer. In fact sunset will be about 8pm on April 1 due to Springing forward and we are nowhere near the Summer Solstice yet.

I was all set to be totally pissed when I saw the words "in MICHIGAN", until I read the article and it would indeed apply to the US in general, so... what was up with adding 'in Michigan'???

ETA: yay!!! I've only been waiting for this to happen ever since I was old enough to notice when the clocks had to be changed...

So - this was passed by the Senate? And only needs to be passed by the House?

ETA again: and it passed in the Senate unanimously, so, if it passes the House by a large enough margin, which I think it should, it could even survive a veto by Jill.

Did they really, or is that just as made up as Chief Seattle seeing the buffalo? Nobody HAS EVER SAID that Daylight Savings would make the day longer. What they SAID is that it would shift the daylight hours to give more light in the evening. Which it does. And what this change will do if it goes through is BREAK very single automated thermostat in the country that has the time change built in. Not to mention a lot of cars and other machinery. I guarantee you if this goes through there will be millions of people bitching when they finally figure out what all this means.

Great thoughts at the end of your post, unintended consequences.

As to the question about the saying,, yes, they have said that. It is said for many other things, also. It is a diss to the white man, but I like it.
