that's called a democracy and is a really bad idea. rule of the many is a thing that the founding fathers were afraid of and did as much as they could to stop it from happening. the USA is a constitutional republic and will stay that way.

I actually agree that made-up news is a problem. Fox News lies every day, I watch the channel and fact-check them. They are even going to lose a case against Dominion because there is evidence that shows the "news" team knew Trump lost the election but peddled election lies anyway.

I watch CNN and fact-check them as well - and they do not lie. However, they are biased. Biased news is normal, outright lies are not. It confuses people and makes them base their reality on falsehoods - this results in a degraded decision-making process for the individual.

Republicans can believe in lies all they want - it is just going to result in them making stupid decisions that harm themselves, then they will blame someone else as usual.

Republicans should be furious they were being lied to and manipulated by Fox News, but they are just sheep with no understanding of the concept. Would a news station that respected its viewers lie to them? No! Fox News is using all of you for profit.

Free speech does not protect against slander and bearing false witness.

I might suggest that our 'belief" that it is "news" is the problem. If we had been actually taught what it actually is we would actually not be deceived (unless we wanted to be.)

The thing that protects us against false witness and slander was never 'free speech,' it was reason, and debate. The problem is that we sometimes rely on the words of others to constitute the whole of our knowledge... a tactical failing.

I agree with you completely, my friend. Critical thinking is dead. Critical thinking means thinking for yourself and questioning what others say. You should never base your belief on what someone else says - you should test it for yourself.

Here is a poem I wrote about it:
Tell me to dance, I’ll dance
Ask me to jump I’ll ask how high
Tell me what to think and,
Don’t forget to tell me why

Why believe what I can see
When I can use your eyes
Why believe what I can feel
When your feelings are right

I don’t like to think, it’s hard
Will you do that for me
Hold my hand, a little longer
Tell me how to be

Think of all those capital rioters who tried to overthrow the government just because Trump wanted them to. They got themselves arrested. This is the exact same phenomena as lemmings following each other off a cliff. If any one of them had an ounce of critical thinking skills they would have found no evidence to support Trump's claims. Sure, there was heresy and slander - but that hardly counts as evidence, and a critical thinker would know that.

You know where people end up who blindly listen to Fox News? Dead or in prison. Case in point: anti-vaxers and capital rioters.

Does it really benefit Republicans to base their policies on lies? No! Why not? Because it makes their policies worthless and impossible to defend! What Republicans need to do is come up with a philosophy that is grounded in evidence.

Unfortunately, because of the conservative media, Republicans don't have a CLUE what is true or not even if they wanted to. This makes it impossible to create evidence-based policies.

For example, MTG wants a national divorce, but she must have forgotten that the red states are welfare states that rely on the taxes of blue states to survive with federal assistance. This is just one example of how anti-intellectual Republicans shoot themselves in the foot.

As I mentioned before, Republicans are free to harm themselves and their party all they want, it's just not smart if they want to be a respected part of national discourse.

They should deport all those with no paperwork to be in our country immediately.
We Americans would have more housing, less inflation, less costs in welfare to cover all the millions living off us, and then realize how our quality of life is being destroyed by these invaders.
We have already lost chances at housing at 2 desirable locations, being given to illegals free of charge, and I am having trouble finding employment because I now have to know their language.
Not to mention that they do not have to have insurance of any type, but Americans do.
Does anyone realize how much these undocumented are really costing us?

Getting a new president, preferably one that is, not an incompetent, senile racist fascist like the one we have now.

Hate or love Trump but he's saying those in power/deep state always seeking for conflict/war. Those in power are not for the American people, let alone for people abroad. They are just trying to keep power in the world, so that oil/gas etc gets sold in dollars, and that the military industrial complex always goes ahead full steam (the most important industry left). Any country in the way of that and their propaganda makes sure that country looks bad in the world with their power over the media. Those in power want a 1 world order with them in control. And a president is mostly without any meaningfull power, just look at Biden

No disrespect intended but, "...tried to overthrow the government..." "Trump wanted them to... ?" "anti-vaxers?"

I must be missing something in your response... I get that these were 'common' imagery propagated by media... perhaps sarcasm? Or am I being obtuse?

Please let's not betray the thread author by making this about "Trump."

Let's try and stay "on topic" and discuss the "wish list" of changes.... a new one might read

"Leave the political-personality dirt where it belongs."

Uhmm this isn't that much about Trump but about a former president saying those in power/deep state seeked conflict with Russia starting a coop in Ukraine and before in the Middle East started wars for over 20 years!. That war in the ME costed how much money?? Many trillions, you have people living under every bridge, homeless (many many veterans who are treated like dirt after being used). Those in power don't care about Americans. After 9-11 spending went out of control and now they have a budget shortage every year of trillions!
They put hundred billions or more in Ukraine, they always have money for conflict/war for their special interests.
People in the US themself don't care, just about trying to make money, soulless country in- and outside, no morals left.

You make an interesting point. Trump knew the election was not stolen, yet spread lies about it, which directly led to the capital riots. Yes, they were there to overthrow the government. I heard it straight from the horse's mouth. They were there to stop the January 6th proceedings to keep Biden from being confirmed as President. It was the last part of Trump's futile plan to stay in power. I don't know if you were living under a rock or what, but they were not secretive about their intentions. It is true that Trump did not state this outright - but he was purposely lying about the election. Why would he do that if he didn't have a reason?

Anti-vaxers are terrified of new technology with no evidence against it - and the evidence that they do have against it is shoddy or fabricated. I understand if an individual wants to skip getting vaccinated and put their health at risk. But some conservative states like Idaho are attempting to pass laws that make administering flu vaccines and covid vaccines illegal.

It does not take a genius to figure out that policies like this will result in excess deaths. As I noted before, Republicans are only harming themselves. You will see, for example, that many more Republicans died of COVID than Democrats - almost enough to affect elections across the nation.

I just want to see the Republican party pull its head out of its ass. At the moment it is a joke.

OK... I get it.... but the topic is:

Your entry is NOT about that in any way...

It's OK to have an idea you want to discuss... but it is not logical to place them anywhere and everywhere...

This represents the last of my attempts to elicit cooperation from you..

Take these talking points you present to a thread of your own...

I don't enjoy having to reiterate the "on topic" responses that mutual respect embodies.

Anymore forays into the manner in which you wish to characterize current events will no longer be met with patience.

Sorry to be 'restrictive' but this thread was interesting, until...

Well get rid of those who control your country, but that would be hard if not impossible, you can vote but doesn't matter. But same like most country's in that respect. They mostly spend money trying to keep their power in the world, that's the problem, not enough money to spend/left at home to make things better at home. Their should be a morale compass in congress, get rid of the CIA/Pentagon and others, they are like a legal Mafia.

So let me tell you a secret, their will be no fix possible anymore, the spending is out of control and soon it will just collapse and what will be left is (drugs) addicts and homeless people everywhere.

I'm so sorry to say this, my parents thought the world of the United States, they applied and waited to come here, moved in with relatives (you had to have sponsors otherwise you could not come to be a burden on the country), worked hard their whole lives, and were proud to become United States Citizens -
But now things have changed so drastically here that I don't think it can be fixed, it has gone too far.
