Thousands of U.S. flights delayed, canceled amid massive winter storm

More than 2,200 flights were delayed and canceled at airports across the U.S. on Wednesday morning as a coast-to-coast winter storm affecting most of the northern half of the country continued to track east from Washington toward New England.

Following several days of reported disruptions to air travel, which prompted major airlines like Delta and Southwest to issue weather waivers in anticipation of further scheduling issues, at least 1,109 U.S. flights were delayed and another 1,116 were canceled before 11 a.m. ET on Wednesday, according to the online tracking database FlightAware. Those numbers account for flights originally scheduled to move within, into or out of the U.S.

Along with SkyWest, Delta and Southwest are among the airlines most affected by this week's winter storm. Each individual airline had already canceled between 231 and 239 flights by mid-morning on Wednesday, the database showed, while Southwest and Delta reported 178 and 152 delayed trips, respectively.

You wouldn't know it here in SC; it will be over 80 tomorrow and currently around 75 today. It's sure looking a lot like spring down here; unfortunately, I would love to get some of the snow as we've missed it apparently this year.

And here I am in the GR metro with just a mix of some snow, and majority sleet so far.

They did say we're definitely getting freezing rain at some point, maybe a 10th, maybe 4/10ths, who knows, it's a Michigan See-And-Say Winter -- what will the precip arrow stop on this time?

Light snow but we are anticipating ice.

My daughter is by Canada and it’s bad, nonstop snow, ice covered roads. She said everyone is slipping and sliding and she say many near accident misses yesterday.

I bought a brand new $1k snow blower in November and I haven't even had to take it out of the shed this year.... Frickin disappointed

We have 2.
Garage sale specials! I believe under 500 for both.
One with rubber paddles, one with steel. Driveway is asphalt, and hubby uses the other in the back yard, to plow me a path to the polebarn for my Chickens.

Neither one does a dang thing for ice of course.
And me without ice skates.

And..... now it is raining. Because water on top of ice SO much better!

Although I agree with all the doom porness, some storms are historic.. The one hitting Minnesota might be one of them.

Ice is no joke when you have to go outside. It doesn't happen here often but when it does it's like watching Monty Python's

Two Words, Ice Cleats.

We've had them for years, downside is forgetting to take them off and trashing your floors.
Spend the money, save yourself a broken hip or worse. A good friend of mine got them an only busted them out in that huge storm where TX got slammed. She could tend her chickens check the well pump an her hubby who had mocked both of us turned right around a delegated her to water & feeding the cows & horses.

In Knoxville Tennessee it’s clear and 80 degrees last night. We had dinner out on the deck, it was wonderful.
