In my opinion, the FDA like most government regulatory agencies is nothing more than a group of insiders with the goal of promoting profit for those they represent (their former and future employers) big agriculture and big processed food conglomerates. Public health and safety is an after-thought . Our food is tainted with tons of chemicals, deadly refined oils, refined concentrated ingredients that we have no business eating.

www.cbsnews.com...

Potassium bromate. It's a suspected carcinogen that's banned for human consumption in Europe, China and India, but not in the United States.

In the U.S., the chemical compound is used by some food makers, usually in the form of fine crystals or powder, to strengthen dough. It is estimated to be present in more than 100 products.

"There is evidence that it may be toxic to human consumers, that it may even either initiate or promote the development of tumors

It's not just potassium bromate. A range of other chemicals and substances banned in Europe over health concerns are also permitted in the U.S., including Titanium dioxide (also known as E171); Brominated vegetable oil (BVO) (E443); Potassium bromate (E924); Azodicarbonamide (E927a) and Propylparaben (E217).

No surprise considering the average American is over weight or obese with only 25% of men and 30% of women weighing in at normal or lower weights.

Diet and life style plays a big roll in our physiques. With the accelerated life style that’s being pushed on more and more people the desire for quick easy meals become a more attractive versus more healthy balanced alternatives.

I do find however like all things you get what you put in. Meal prep can serve as a great tool to create both healthy and quickly available foods.
If I plan to make a lasagna I’ll make 3. Freeze 2. And make more meat sauce then is required so I can get 2-3 meals of spaghetti as well.If I am doing grilled chicken breasts I’ll make the whole 6 pack instead of just 1 freeze the others. Left over chicken/carcass from a whole roasted chicken becomes many meals of chicken soup.

Make a bunch of homemade hamburgers at once and pre fry some so they can be made into Salisbury steaks rapidly. Make 2-3x the amount of rice needed for a meal so you can make fried rice the following day. Freeze any left over rice for use in soups.

It both saves money by extending the food you already purchase and prevents a person from falling prey to fast food.

I also schedule 1 fast food meal a week. Fries on Friday with the family. That way you know it’s coming at point and can resist the urge throughout the week. We all know it’s bad but also so freakin good! So it acts like a reward for getting to the end of the work week when you may just want to relax and not worry about dishes and cooking even if the meal is preped.

well the correct answer instead of banning them would have been keep on eating them, they would build up a tolerance evently, some of us did. as eddie murrpy's uncle gus said you want to eat don't you.

Good subject, thanks.

I've been looking at the ingredients of the snack foods I've been eating and have noticed that most "Contains a biologically engineered food ingredient" or use a similarly worded statement. All but a few of the foods I've looked at that have this statement don't specify what ingredients are GMO. I have seen one that did and it was the soy, corn and sugar ingredients that were GMOs. The only snacks you can be certain are GMO free are those that make that clear on their packaging. Nabisco snacks all have this GMO notice and are under a Mexican company named "Mondelez International". I suspect many companies use these same ingredients but don't have this statement on the package. I haven't looked into the laws to see if they are required to state any GMO ingredients here in the U.S.

Agreed 100%!!! Also known as "regulatory capture." And it's a HUGE problem.

I believe/assume this is why so many foods taste so horrible these days. Even the in-store bakeries seem to be using these fake ingredients. Foods with fake sugars have such an awful bitter almost chemical taste to them, and I'm now finding some pastries and breads leave the most horrid waxy film in the mouth.

I have the "luxury" of being able to purchase and prepare fresh food for us and mostly avoid these additives (although we can't avoid all the crap in our soil and water and air). I can't imagine the health issues for those that don't have this luxury that they don't even recognize as a side effect of a poor diet.

Unless they have successfully changed the law recently, that is still one redeeming factor of the 'Certified Organic' label (most of the others have been diluted or eviscerated over the years) - they cannot contain any GMO ingredients.

Good topic. I certainly wouldn't eat meat if I lived in the US (unless from a local farm/butcher) the ammount of growth hormones/anti-biotics used in US intensive farming is crazy and made worse by the ammount and type of chemicals/radiation used in packaging instead of hygene.

A lot of US additives/oils/fats don't seem to serve any purpose instead of profit as they're banned in most Western countries due to extensive evidence they're strong carcinogens/known harm to human health. The same brands and fast food chains are available overseas and adapted their recipes to additive free or far safer alternatives decades ago.

Even Russia and China ban the use of Ractopamine in animal feed or any meat from animals fed with it due to the dangers and 95% of US baby food contains traces of toxic metals and ammounts or lead and arsenic that are several times more than the ammount known to be neurotoxic impede neuro-development.

One of the more serious problems caused by bromide/bromate is that it displaces iodine in the body, and iodine is one of the few nutrients that almost everyone everywhere is seriously deficient in, and iodine deficiency is needed by all ,inds of things in the body.

In fact, iodine is one of the few supplements that I will be making a permanent part of my nutritional lifestyle (carnivore). Lugols is best since it contains both potassium iodide (100mg/mL) and iodine (50mg/mL). I'm using 15% (you can order it from the UK), and taking anywhere between 75 and 150mg per day.

One thing to understand is that if you are bromide poisoned (many people are), you can have negative symptoms when beginning iodine supplementation due to it displacing bromide in your body, which is what is causing the negative symptoms. I haven't experienced any symptoms myself, but I've been trying to find out/confirm if either (or both) activated charcoal and/or living clay water will pull this stuff out minimizing/eliminating the symptoms, but no luck so far.

Not to defend the really bad (horrible in some cases) commercial farming practices, but this is essentially a myth...

Antibiotic and hormone treatments are expensive, and are only given for relatively short periods of time (to speed their growth), and certainly not right up until they are slaughtered. The levels of growth hormones in packaged meats are zero. Of course it is possible an animal may have been given antibiotics right before slaughter, but even then the levels would be almost non-existent in the meat.

I think i experienced the bromide detox crisis years ago when i started the iodine protocol.

This is when salt comes in, using salt flushing chlorine help body get rid bromide.
Some people dont use enough salt, and may not have enough chlorine to help against bromide .

I dont think activated charcoal or clay remove bromide, a halogen ....will need iodine and chlorine.

Even my kids noticed packaged foods taste like # anymore, lol. Something is damn well wrong when the ravenous teenagers of the world notice the grub tastes off.

We've been baking our own bread for over a year nearly exclusively. We've bought store-shelf AND store bakery breads on a handful of lazy occasions, and noticed right away that they are just AWFUL tasting. Bland-salty and pastey, no matter the type. Except the stuff like the real seed breads, they don't taste different (yet)

It could potentially have everything to do with the fact that I only use honey to bake our breads, so there is ZERO sugar use -- just local MI honey.

Hey...
Are we sure they didn't eff around with the sugar genetics, or processing process??

The FDA has been poisoning us for years. It's funny how this country allows things that most 3rd world countries will not!

Phillpeans is very much against processed meat. Why aren't we... wait.. I see. Because we're all a bunch of overweight pigs ripe for the slaughter. I mean, that's how we're treated. We eat like cattle. We consume BS like sheep.

That's it! We're food!

Kidding aside, it's very sad that what we're force fed (you can't say it's any other way because options are very limited for MOST), 3rd world countries wont even allow across their borders.

We should hold them respon... ehhh I give up. That never worked. I don't have an answer. There is no answer.

Other than... Money trumps Lives in the US. That's all of it. Money is king here. Health took a backseat a long time ago, along with everything else that's good for you in this country. Even Freedom has been rebranded without the actual freedom attached.

Oh man... yeah, that's bad. At that age, they're just inhaling their food anyway, so if it tastes bad to them it's awful!

I'm glad you mentioned this. I need to start making my own bread. I've been buying only whole grain breads from the bakery for a couple years now. So far, so good. But that may change. Hanging my head in embarrassment, I confess I haven't been able to get the dough to rise properly since we moved here, and I do miss the smell of homemade bread baking... and there's nothing better than fresh baked bread with butter! Yeah, I definitely need to start baking bread again.

Well, right off the bat you identify something very relevant to the topic.

The Food and Drug Administration is among the best exemplars of what happens when our regulatory efforts are infiltrated by self-serving political appointees and industry insiders. The citizens are 'exploited' by creating an operating environment where their profiteering extends to the limitations of liabilities, and the removal of profit-reducing restrictions.

The weakness lies in the overriding paradigms of political expedience and party economics. When the industry can 'influence' regulators with political contributions, support, and "career opportunities for their posterity" the 'intent of law' becomes a target to 'change' by altering the 'letter of the law.' The only people who can change the letter of the law becomes the regulators and bureaucrats who are led by "political appointees."

We should hold them respon... ehhh I give up. That never worked. I don't have an answer. There is no answer.

Of course there is an answer! They ARE responsible. The misunderstanding is that "we" are not the ones who have any bearing on them. The "political appointee" class is only answerable to the party itself.

Political parties must actually "do" something other than organize gatherings of favored elites and count money... but they don't. The parties in this country are sick... and it was not "the food" that made them so.

Other than... Money trumps Lives in the US. That's all of it. Money is king here. Health took a backseat a long time ago, along with everything else that's good for you in this country. Even Freedom has been rebranded without the actual freedom attached.

It was never money... it was the glorification of money, the casual acceptance that "you can never have enough," and the idea that ultimately, money is the "true measure" of the quality of human life.

I also refuse to accept this is a USA thing... this started before there even was a USA.

Our United States began as an enterprise, where the 'naturally automatic' bleeding of prosperity towards a single "entitled class" of people was refused... the 'entitled' simply created "new" receptacles for diverted wealth.

Food manufacturers have ZERO pride in 'contributing to the welfare and health of their consumers.' Their marketing departments know exactly what to say to make you think otherwise, the politicians they support will always protect the parties' income - or the party will break them. The media cabal will oblige either in exchange for access to the information they can use for similar profit opportunity and control capabilities.

In the end, money is just the tool we foolishly embraced as if it were a gift from God, instead of the property of a bank.

And the bank is everywhere... a 'net' which reigns us in and holds us in bondage.

You want solutions? Look to the regulatory bodies, how they operate, who "lobbies" them, and which politicians seem most "beholden" to their influence. And bring a light to shine upon the often-misunderstood idea that their "policy" IS not LAW. It can be fought and changed ... but only by a political operative who is willing to "do" ... because "trying" is now just for parliamentary showmanship.

Hmmm...

Looks like I stand corrected about the hormones. I'll have to go double-check what I think I know about the antibiotics...

That said, from what I read about these pellets, it is in no way certain that the level of hormones poses a risk to humans.

That said... I will continue to only buy meat that is at least certified organic and AB/hormone free.
