Former Paralympian Oscar Pistorius will receive 24-hour police protection if freed on parole next month, as the father of victim Reeva Steenkamp labeled his recent face-to-face meeting with the athlete 'traumatising'.

Pistorius, 36, widely known as 'Blade Runner' due to his blade-like carbon fibre prosthetics, was convicted of culpable homicide in 2015 for the murder of then-girlfriend Steenkamp.

Steenkamp, 29, died on Valentine's Day 2013 when Pistorius claimed to have mistaken her for an intruder at his home in Pretoria, South Africa, using his gun to fire four shots at the bathroom door behind which his girlfriend stood.

Pistorius getting out already???

Guess murder sentences are somewhat mutable where he hails from or if you know the right people, but serving only half the sentence seems rather lax.

To be quite frank this piece of very nasty work should have been given the death sentence though if that was too much for that country he should at least have served a full life term though indeed there are worse criminal's that get far less time for far more serious crimes.

He however has shown no remorse for the murder of a beautiful young woman who was obviously terrified for her life her final moments ones of sheer and utter terror.

Let's hope he meet's his just deserts and get's robbed and shot or something, south Africa is not the safest place to live in the world and so I hope he makes a wrong turn in his car once he is out of the nick down there.

Yes he is getting out already after almost 10yrs plus he is going to still be on parole so not exactly a free man.

But the is problem with your statement. He was not convicted of murder which is a crime of intentionally taking a life. He was convicted of culpible homicide which has not defined min or max sentence. If someone dies bc of ur negligence that's not the same as someone dying because u beat them to death with ur fists. She was shot through a door bc of alarm at 3am thinking of an intruder. He didn't seem to intentionally murder her but his negligence of not checking who was behind the door before shooting. In AMerican he would have been charged with some kind of murder bc its ur responsibility as a gun owner to know what's/who is on the other side of the door before u shoot. Yell at them asking who is behind the door. No answer ill shoot. I'm sure she would have responded with its Me or something to the effect. But he didn't he shoot 4 times not knowing who was there killed his Gf and went to prison for 10yrs MIGHT get out on parole. He hasn't been granted his parole yet so they could deny it and he has to go back to his cell.

Law is a about the fine details of definitions of words and interpretations of meanings. And confusing those words results in confusion and distrust. The man is serving his debt to society based on what the man in the white wig and black robe im SA determined he need to complete to get back into society.

My bad, culpible homicide it is then.

Still a dirty murdering bastard all the same, that likes to shoot woman through doors, and who has shown little remorse for the crime he committed.

If its fine details you are after the judge that convicted/re-sentenced Pistorius aka "that man in the white wig and black robe" your going on about was a woman(Thokozile Masipa).

en.wikipedia.org...#:~:text=On%206%20July%202016%20Thokozile,in%20South%20Africa%20for%20murder.

Either way, entitled to a second chance or not, the world has a way of giving people their comeuppance, and hence the Police protection that's apt to be required when/if he is released.

In 2015, the Supreme Court of Appeals overturned the culpable homicide verdict and found Pistorius guilty of murder.
