According to information published by Tass on February 7, 2023, Russia’s only Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier is scheduled to leave the dry dock on February 16-17.
The aircraft carrier entered the dry dock last May, and work to repair and modernize it was launched in June. USC CEO Alexey Rakhmanov said earlier that the heavy aircraft cruiser would be commissioned in early 2024 after a major overhaul.

This could be interesting , following news last month that Admiral Kuznetsov was to be moved from dry dock to a pier to continue with its refit but contractors tasked with the work had warned the ship was liable to sink or capsize Russian military powers have decided to carry on regardless.

Ship repairmen warned the military that the condition of Admiral Kuznetsov does not allow it to be deployed due to the high probability that it would sink or capsize.

During the examination, it was revealed that the metal structures below the third deck of the ship were significantly corroded. The holds are filled with muddy water, which makes it impossible to examine the ship in detail from the inside.

I'm sure everything will be fine and Russia won't end up owning the Worlds first aircraft carrying submarine ... probably.

Still accompanied by a tugboat is my bet.

Apparently, its propulsion system and boilers are screwed beyond repair down to continuous use even whilst sitting in port and need to be replaced.

They are simply setting themselves up for another Moskva experience if that thing goes anywhere near an active theatre of war.

I am not sure how the Russians even operate submarines, with the way they keep their surface vessels.
In the US Navy, I was able to observe Soviet naval surface vessels that ‘shadowed’ (rather closely) our ships during exercises I. The early 1980’s. They looked very poorly maintained.

A friend of mine that was a sonar man on various ballistic missile subs said that Soviet nuclear powered icebreakers would set off radiation detectors on US subs when they went over our boomers in the arctic.

That was my thought as well. Why spend so much time and fortune on a ship that would be taken out within the first 10 minutes of a conflict?

Probably because Russia simply does not have any other aircraft cruisers nor the capability to construct new aircraft carriers.

She was originally Ukrainian property stationed in Sevastopol until Russia appropriated her.

Maybe they want the pile of scrap to be sunk so they can justify firing off a tactical nuke or two?

Their flagship being sunk off of the Ukraine coast with it's defense systems not operating is a perfect example of the condition of the Russian navy.

And when I say not operating..
I mean broken or when running it interfered with communication systems. They didn't even have enough fire extinguishers.

I can only imagine that this carrier would be in worse shape.

My biggest fear is that Putin will eventually get desperate and do something stupid.

I don't even think the thing could provide an adequate clean water supply to the crew down to the freshwater tanks and purification system not doing what it said on the tin or becoming damaged beyond repair.......or rather beyond what they were willing to pay to address or fix the serious dilemma.

Ummm...such a believable little story...

We're to believe that while in drydock..."holds filled with muddy water"...weren't pumped out and inspected...?

Could it be something like this-

"Ok chaps, our aircraft carrier is permenantly munted.
But don't worry we have managed to get it fully insured-so we are going to tow it to the black sea,and hopefully the Ukes will sink it for us and we will get the insurance to make a shiny new one."

Yeah I know no reputable insurance company would touch it-but a corrupt insurance company involved with a corrupt Russian kleptocracy who is in on the scam might go for it?

Hard to believe that while in drydock, the drydock sank, and a 70-ton crane attached to said dock landed on Admiral Kuznetsov's flight deck......and yet it happened.

Hard too believe?
Not really, more like par for the course.

Just look at the Moskva.

I think it's caught fire a couple of times.

Seems cursed if that's a thing.

Apparently, some of the crew serving on the ship see it as akin to punishment.

Brazilian navy just sank their old and broken aircraft carrier to Atlantic ocean, maybe Russians think that is good idea and will sank Admiral Kuznetsov ?

Maybe they want to sink it to make a nice reef in the Barents Sea. Give it a few years there'd be some decent fishing over the wreck.

I was thinking something similar, but with more sinister motive...

They could sail it close to Britain and then sink it there on purpose, then they would claim they have the right to be there 24/7 to protect and guard it....would not surprise me at all.

They're moving it out of dry dock to a pier where the refit will continue ... unless it tips over on the way then they'll blame NATO.

Most definitely it would be NATO they would blame if something happen to that ship

Kremlin would write statement that US navy seals with underwater vehicles sabotaged it .

Sail it close to Britain?

It would probably sink well before it ever got anywhere near us.
