The U.S. military has shot down the Chinese spy balloon over the Atlantic Ocean.

While the balloon was off the coast of South Carolina, the balloon was shot down by the U.S. military on Saturday afternoon, according to Fox News sources.

A senior defense official said during a Thursday afternoon briefing that the U.S. government is "confident" the surveillance balloon is from the People's Republic of China. China has continued to claim that the balloon was merely a weather research “airship” that had been blown off course. The Pentagon rejected that out of hand — as well as China’s contention that it was not being used for surveillance and had only limited navigational ability.
A senior U.S. official told Fox News on Saturday that the government was considering a plan to shoot the balloon down while it's over the Atlantic Ocean where it wouldn't harm any individuals on the ground.
An operation was underway in U.S. territorial waters in the Atlantic Ocean to recover debris from the balloon, which had been flying at about 60,000 feet and was estimated to be about the size of three school buses.
Television footage showed a small explosion, followed by the balloon descending toward the water. U.S. military jets were seen flying in the vicinity and ships were deployed in the water to mount the recovery operation.

This was terrorism-lite. Did they not realize it was the dumbest move to make? Mainstream America is concerned about the communist threat now and will galvanize against the CCP. This is one step closer to us mopping the floor with red chinese troops on the battlefield. What a shame.

Let's be honest. Any reconnaissance capabilities this balloon may have actually had were shut down the second it was detected in US airspace.

This seems like a show created to appease a certain portion of the population, while the actual balloon continues to inertly float with nobody actually able to detect it, outside the military.

Yes, a single missile popped it and it fell from pm the sky. The story we were told about how difficult it would be to bring it down were BS.
The ballon could have been dropped shortly after it entered US airspace. The story we were told about hazards to people on the ground were the same… BS. Most of the western US is largely very sparsely populated.

Any kind of propulsion system would produce heat. Which means it would be detected the second it entered US airspace and any electronics were shut down.

A friend of mine watched it go down from coastal South Carolina.

Yeah, they shot it down after it sent all of the sensitive intel to China that it was meant to gather. That data wasn't being store in the balloon until it returned, it was being beamed directly to the Chinese through some kind of wireless means.

That's why they let it go across the entire country, because Biden was in on it, got paid to let it happen, or actually wanted the Chinese to know our secrets because he hates us and hates America. He's mentally retarded and early alzheimers but a master at getting away with high level crime.

I can only compare it to someone who's autistic but really good at that one thing in particular that it's amazing. You've probably known one of them at some point in the past, so now you understand.

There are probably a hundred more effective vectors to do just that, but internet super sleuths discovered that they are inept and foiled it all.

Biden actually wanted to shoot it down when this went public while over Montana. The military said no. It doesn't happen often, but dementia-Joe was right. We'll have to listen to him telling us how smart he is for the next few days.
