The new image shows a Sar forming region named NGC 346 which is located in the Small Magellanic Cloud , a small Galaxy parked close to the Milky Way.

Check out the full rez image at the link bellow , the detail is stunning.

The pink gas represents energized hydrogen, which is typically as hot as around 10,000 °C (approximately 18,000 °F) or more, while the more orange gas represents dense, molecular hydrogen, which is much colder at around -200 °C or less (approximately -300 °F), and associated dust. The colder gas provides an excellent environment for stars to form, and, as they do, they change the environment around them. The effect of this is seen in the various ridges throughout, which are created as the light of these young stars breaks down the dense clouds.

Pretty amazing!

I love these space porn threads much more than the political crap.

Beautiful photo.

I wish more people could appreciate the true scale of just how incredibly big that formation is

would it not be radical, amazing if this 'star nursery ' suddenly began to grow exponentially? .... entering the mode of inflation where stars instantly became 2 light-years distant from one another (like time-space was like .000001 second after the Big Bang event)

a new Galaxy would instantly replace the present stringy molecular cloud (contributing to the mysterious universe expansion rate)

a genesis event indeed

Stunning image! Makes for a great desktop wallpaper if turned on its side.
